Re: This game can now be played right through ScummVM

The SCUMMVM dialog box is looking for a directory, not any particular file. Just click Choose while you're looking in the QfG2 remake directory.

Re: What aspect ratio was this game meant to be played at?

The game was made in 320x200 4:3, both to match the VGA style and to be able to use art assets based on those of the original games. This unfortunately means that it has non-square pixels, so rendering it with square pixels will make it look squished. The only way to get the art to look non-squished...

Re: Quest for Glory 2: Speed Slow

Unfortunately, I don't have any other ideas.

It's sad, really. Thanks to DOSBox and SCUMMVM, the original games can run fine on a modern system, but the remakes have these issues.

Re: Quest for Glory 2: Speed Slow

If I remember right, the problem has to do with a multi-processor system (which are more ubiquitous now than when the remake was first released), with the workaround being to tell the system to run it on only one CPU, but I haven't gotten that to work in Windows 10. For me, the normal gameplay is ju...

Re: Any way to have HQ graphics on a 64-bit system?

The "32-bit" there refers to the color depth of the game, not the type of processor you have. It just means that some AGS run with 16 bit colors and the filters won't work for those games. It should work fine with the QfG2 remake regardless of system you have. It just might not be what you...

Re: Magic in combat?

In combat, you use the WASD keys to cast spells. These (and all combat hotkeys) can be reconfigured in the combat options if you want to use different ones. Note that fighters can't cast spells while holding a shield, so they'd need to either cast only outside of combat or put their shield in the st...

Re: Windows 10 windowed mode?

In the game's launcher, the second option ("Settings") will let you configure the game to be in a window. You can also access this setup by running winsetup.exe in the game's installation folder (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\AGD Interactive\Quest for Glory II).

Re: Trouble running the game

Maybe? The game was designed at a resolution of 320x200 with a 4:3 aspect ratio (i.e. with non-square pixels). That archaic resolution can be difficult on a modern computer, and the version of AGS the game is written is also rather dated now. Depending on your game settings, OS, graphics, and monito...

Re: Trouble running the game

In the game setup, you can choose various graphics filters to scale up the game. These might enable full screen to work, or at least increase the size of the game window. There's also the "force alternate letterbox resolution" option that might be worth testing.

Re: What are the rules if you want to make unofficial game?

AGDI was a rather unusual case of making a unauthorized fan remakes but then just being given official permission after the fact (and for the others they had in progress). That doesn't normally happen and can't be relied on. Normally, in order to make any work based on someone else's intellectual pr...

Re: Point & Click dialog option

You can ask about "air elemental" via the "daily news" menu on days when it's present. That's the option that gives you points and the information you need to defeat it. I don't see an option for asking about just "air", but that seems to be a non-essential topic.

Re: Point & Click dialog option

All game-essential dialogue options are available in the point-and-click mode. They might just be not be visible initially; the game uses a dialogue tree system, so some options are only visible after asking other things. There are some topics you can only ask via text input, but none of those are e...

Re: QFG2 VGA advice

DOSBox is for running DOS games, which the AGDI remakes aren't.

It is a bit ironic that, thanks to DOSBox, the Sierra originals are easier to get running in fullscreen than the remakes.

I'm not aware of any current plans to update the remakes.

Re: Quest for Glory Reloaded

I think a big part of why AGDI was given a license is because they weren't taking any money from it. Anyone wanting to make such a remake who doesn't want to get a cease and desist would need to pay for the license.

In any case, AGDI isn't making any more remakes.

Re: Questions about QGF2 VGA

Hi, I am glad that someone made beautiful remake of so good game that I had played 20 years ago. Great job. But I have some questions reggarding unpleasant things that I've found in the game. 1. I use wide screen monitor like everyone else these days with 16:9 ratio. If I want to play QFG1 VGA I ha...

Re: Quest for Glory Reloaded

Ideas are cheap. Actual game development isn't. That LSL remake you mention got over half a million from its Kickstarter campaign, and it still ended up looking noticeably cheap. Plus, LSL1 is a much simpler game than QfG1. AGDI's games, like the EGA/VGA games from Sierra, are all 320x200. Making th...

Re: Is it possible to set custom resolutions?

It is a bit of a shame to have games missing features because of an outdated engine, or because it was released before some other game brought an innovation to the genre (I know the AGDI games are intentionally sticking to the Sierra formula, but they could still do things like Heroine Quest's keybo...

To be fair, even in the original KQ2, the distance traveled underwater is a lot more than that of KQ1. He might be able to hold his breath for a bit, but he's no Guybrush Threepwood.

Re: Is it possible to set custom resolutions?

What you see in the setup is what you get. You can either use the games' native 320x200 or scale by an integer factor, up to 4x. AGS 3.4 supports arbitrary resolutions, but the version AGDI games use doesn't. From the label, I'm assuming it means that in those cases where a sprite is scaled (e.g. in...
