EGA support in some later SCI games->

At https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=85280 there is a discussion about how the SCI driver EGA640.drv might work and why some Sierra titles even support it despite VGA having become the norm.

If anyone here has any idea, please reply.

Re: Magic using thief - bug at the end of the game

Okay, I'm stuck at the end of the game (Quest for Glory II VGA 1.0) and reading this thread hasn't helped. I'm playing as a thief hybrid with points for all skills. Once I enter the castle, I don't get taken to the harem. I get taken directly to the antechamber. I've to calm Khaveen before I can ent...

Re: Unable to get scorpion or ghoul claws after killing

Okay thanks, I will try talking to Harik about "components". I did try asking about tails and claws. Why doesn't that work?

Unable to get scorpion or ghoul claws after killing

I'm playing Quest for Glory II VGA 1.0 and I appear to be unable to take scorpion tails or ghoul claws after killing a scorpion or ghoul. I get told there is nothing to take. How do I take the claws or tails?

I got in this time. Thanks Erpy. Interesting how the exact same question can have two different answers...

Re: Entering the WIT - "Who is the companion of Erusmus?"

I already tried entering the hero's name including some random names from the game (such as Erasmus, Fenrus, Aziza, etc.) - nothing worked. Perhaps I should have mentioned that.

BTW:
The question I get asked at WIT changed after visiting Aziza.

Entering the WIT - "Who is the companion of Erusmus?"

When I attempt to enter the W.I.T., I get the following question: "Who is the companion of Erasmus?" When I enter "Fenrus" which should be the correct answer, I get thrown out. Screenshot: http://www.euronet.nl/users/swinkels/screenshot.gif Savegame: http://www.euronet.nl/users/s...

Re: QG4 Problem... and it's NOT the infamous Error 52

What operating system are you using? Also, are you running Quest for Glory inside an emulator such as Dosbox?

This is great news. The trailer looks good, but isn't it possible to zoom in on the flash animation? It looks awfully small on my computer screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

I never said that what I said was true for all computers. If you have a Pentium III or 4 of 1ghz or more, Dosbox should give you no trouble with most games. Try running your games in Dosbox on a really old computer. You will see what I mean. I have two laptops, both Pentium III's. One is 600mhz and ...

What's in your Dosbox.conf file? BTW: Hardly any dos game probably needs the processing power of today's computers. Even if Dosbox wouldn't execute a dos game as fast as it would be executed outside Dosbox it wouldn't matter because it's still fast enough. And properly written Dos games will adjust ...

How do you make a game run as fast in DOSBox as it would in a real MS-DOS environment (edit: on the same computer?)

I'm aware of the fact that DOSBox's performance speed is dependent on the number of cycles used. But, program's running in DOSBox CANNOT perform as fast as they would running in the real MS-DOS (edit: when using the same computer.) The comparisson's I made were what I estimated to be the fastest DOS...

Yes, I know about that, but since it's an emulator, the highest speed DOSBox can emulate is always going to be much lower than what your computer can support. The speeds I mentioned were what I estimated to be the best DOSBox could manage on the processors described.

Maybe you need to patch your version of Quest for Glory I. I think this site has some useful patches: http://geocities.com/belzorash/ . You could also try running the game in DOSBox. DOSBox has gotten a lot of my old DOS games and applications running on my computer and it's getting better with each...

Nope, they ran fine natively. Now I really would like to know. What DOS games run fine under Windows XP natively? They probably don't use a sound card and the like do they? Like I mentioned in the posts above, it's not only XP that causes trouble for old software such as the lack of a pc speaker in...

I think I found the answer to most problems. I gave DosBox a try and it solves video, sound and speed related issues. Is that what you use to run your DOS games Angelus3K?

Windows cant use a driver that hasnt been written for it, same as Windows cant use a Mac or Linux driver for the soundcard. Windows seems to provide the drivers itself rather than the game. If this is true that means Windows should be able provide a better driver for an old Windows program. I teste...

In Windows XP several DOS based games run very jerky and sluggish. This is not related to VDMSound or the CPU speed as far as I know. I mean if a DOS game still runs jerky on a 3ghz processor that is because the NTVDM in Windows XP is rubbish, not because the computer can't handle it. Windows based ...

A question about the Windows versions of SCI games->

Newer SCI games (Such as Leisure Suit Larry 6) usually have a Windows version along with their DOS version. Whenever I run the Windows version the music sounds different from that which I hear in the DOS version (I normally use the SoundBlaster or a compatible soundcard driver.)  This wouldn't be pr...
