Re: Any program to edit VGA SCI games with?

The unfinished SCI Studio VGA release can open and edit SCI1.0 resources. There's also SCI Graphic Studio which can also do this. I don't know how readily available they are since Brian's site went AWOL, though. OK, I just decided to bump this thread up with an update. After all these years of basi...

Re: Cracked.com: 6 pieces of Fan Art that are better....

You need a couple things. One of the following: SCI Decoder VGA, SCI Studio VGA, or SCI Resource Viewer to extract the proper Graham sprites. Then you need either SCI Graphic Studio, SCI Studio VGA, or SCI View256 Editor to actually edit them. The TEXT resources you can just extract and edit with S...

Re: Cracked.com: 6 pieces of Fan Art that are better....

That would actually be playably possible (with the floppy version, anyway). You could just take the sprites for Graham out of the resource files, make them all transparent, and change Graham's text dialogue to blanks. Boom. KQ5 without Graham. And how can you edit them? Please tell me, I've been tr...

Re: Thank you.

It's hard to overstate how difficult it is to complete even just one project, though AGDI has several under their belts. Just the Quest for Glory II remake took years of dedication and thousands of hours of work. I can imagine, especially with a game like QFG, which unlike ordinary adventure games,...

Re: Cracked.com: 6 pieces of Fan Art that are better....

I saw this a while back and I can't help but have a huge smile on my face. I really need to get to learning the skills it takes to make a game. But I'm so torn by procrastination and other things that I am often lost as to where to start. Someone should do "King's Quest 5 without Graham" s...

Making music

One question that's been on my mind for a while is making the music for the games. Outside of recording music with real instruments (which I have no skill with, and I don't actually own any instruments), I know about some music composing software, but the only ones I know about are Mario Paint compo...

Also Uhura's little devilspawn, though he's barely a toddler.
Oops, forgot him. Maybe it was because Tanya was more of a real character who was important to the story than Simba, who didn't really do anything and was more of a wallflower.

Re: The problem with indie adventures

You know, I've been seriously considering making a game, and while I realize it is a massively time consuming effort, I still plan on doing a trilogy as a tribute to Sierra, using AGI studio, SCI Companion/Studio, and AGS (the only reason being is that there is, sadly, no functional SCI studio VGA)....

Re: Weird Katta Topic

I assume by 'kitten' they might have meant a young teen, like from 13 to 15, so she isn't as young as to be a little kid (kitten?) by human standards. Also, there was only one real child in the entire QFG series, Tanya in QFG 4, so it's not like it was really strange that children or kittens were ab...

Re: Do any other girls like the QFG games?

I think there were always many female gamers in general. I remember back in the mid 90's there was poll taken by a show on video games (I think it was Movies, Games, and Videos, but it could have been the Games, Games, Games spinoff) that showed that around 40% of all gamers were girls, and that thi...

Okay the game starts off with you King of Silmaria meeting with other rulers, diplomatic stuff , and you are at some banquet with the Sultan who's there to meet his adopted son, with whom you have a conversation something along the lines of "So, where's that special magic grapnel I gave you?&q...

I get your point. I think I might actually get those games anyways since at least I'd be supporting the adventure game genre and those who're making them. Priority, of course, would go to Himalaya games. :)

Games by Himalaya?

It's a been a long time since I was really active on these forums, or on most sierra related forums for that matter. I think I might have missed out on some releases by Himalaya studio. So when I checked their website out, I found that they had new stuff posted up, by they said it was made by Wadjet...

Thanks, I suspected that. :)

At any rate, my intended series will use AGI, SCI, and AGS. The reason I'd use AGS is that there is still no reliable SCI VGA maker out there.

And it was one of the best remakes they ever made. Figures, since it was the last of the remakes that Sierra produced, which probably gave the developers the most experience in dealing with it (King's Quest 1 remake was the only remake to remain in parser, 16 color EGA).

Programming, what to learn for game making?

Several years ago, around 2002 to be exact, I got a brief interest in making games after someone over here introduced me to SCI studio. I later took C++ classes in the summer of 2003 in order to gain some understanding of programming. Unfortunately, I decided to wait for the never-to-be-released ver...

Re: Acrylic Backgrounds - Canvas? Cardboard? Heavy Paper?

I'm not much of a painter, but I've been thinking of using digital paintings as opposed to traditional, largely because I don't have the money or the space in my home to set up painting for games, and because I have a very nice tablet with a lot of good software. I was thinking of using corel painte...

Re: An unorthodox way to resolve the QFG 3 points problem

Saving the meerbat screws you out of points? How do I not know like anything? :P I'm not sure if you're joking or serious, but I'll explain it. Saving the meerbat only gets you points if you're a fighter or paladin. If you're a thief or a magic user, and you get the gem that the meerbat leaves you,...

Re: An unorthodox way to resolve the QFG 3 points problem

Actually, it's not that the points are hidden; in most cases, it's that they're not coded properly. The characters all get points for either running after Harami at the start of the game or stopping him in a class-specific fashion. The problem is that to get full points, you need to do both (which ...
