Re: Future Agdi Games.....
According to that thread, one of the problems is a lack of motivation. Yeah, you reach that stage eventually. The first stage of a new project is always one big sugar buzz, with everyone having wild ideas and putting preliminary material together to form a first build of the new game. You don't nee...

Re: Combat Spells Help?
Yeah... with the way combat works in this QFG2 remake (i.e., it's extremely difficult even as a Fighter), I find Magic Users are better off mashing the Escape button whenever enemies catch up to them if at all feasible.

Favorite Song from QFG4: "Anitra's Dance" by Edvard Grieg
I've long suspected that the "Mordavia Inn" music in Quest for Glory IV originated from a genius classical composer. As it turns out, I was correct; after more than a decade, I became interested in researching its origins and hit pay dirt thanks to the modern Internet. It's a mazurka calle...

Re: How much would you pay for a Sierra Adventure Game Nowadays?
The question of why people steal games instead of buying them, even from genres they're fans of and from developers who genuinely need all the support they can get, is a very difficult one to answer. Two reasons spring immediately to mind: File sharing is an incredibly easy and readily available way...

QfG5 is an excellent example of why 3-D graphics aren't always better. QfG4 was, in my opinion, a MUCH better looking game than QfG5. In 5, the Hero stands in place with his arms stuck out straight like a plastic action figure, as though he's wearing an invisible ball gown. He walks very stiffly. Mo...

I have both a new-ish gaming PC (3.1 GHz / 4 GB RAM / 8800 GTX / XP SP2) and an iMac that's a couple years old (2.16 GHz / 2 GB RAM / Radeon Mobility [?] / OS X 10.4.11). Good cable Internet connection. I've used Safari and Firefox on both, in various versions, and I've never really noticed a signif...

In my opinion, it's a toss-up. Firefox 3.0 has some excellent new features and an advanced interface, plus tons of plug-ins (provided the 2.0 plug-ins roll over, which I assume they will). The current version of Safari has fewer advanced user interface features than Firefox, and a much smaller selec...

I started using this a few months back when it was still in Beta 5, and it was excellent. Unfortunately, I has to downgrade back to v2 because of a plug-in that's critical to my duties at a site I moderate — UnPlug, which along with certain Web sites, lets you embed video whether the originating sit...

Step-by-Step Guide: Running QfG4 in DOSBox
Link to Guide Note that this guide was written for the CD-ROM version. I used this guide to install and patch QfG4 from the Anthology CD, and it works great. Also note that you must be careful to copy every single .DRV file into the install folder. Windows XP won't show the .DRV part of the file na...

All the other sounds remain (doors shutting, spells, etc.). That button just nixes the voice pack. I only mentioned it because it's an alternate solution to the same problem. Someone may have installed the game but subsequently lost their disc (or had it damaged), something along those lines, or are...

Excellent! I'm glad I found that little guide, and was frankly surprised at its existence. Google-fu has paid off again. I wasn't sure if that particular guide had been linked to here before. I did a forum search, but only found people asking specific questions and receiving specific solutions (as o...

It's awesome if they allow it, of course, for whatever reason — even if it's one of those situations where they quietly allow the project to go forward, with the unspoken (but unofficial!) understanding that they don't really mind too much. I'm sure you're right, Angelus: Vivendi must see some benef...

I got QfG4 working in DOSBox with minimal fuss, patch, voices and all.
That was easier than I expected. I found a guide online here, and it worked perfectly for me (with the Anthology CD).

I'm a bit puzzled by the Vivendi situation. I know they own the rights to Sierra On-Line's old intellectual property. The QfG2 remake will be almost completely faithful to the original, except in VGA and with some tweaks to areas that could use improvement (better combat system, non-annoying alleywa...

I know this is mild thread necromancy, but hey — it's better than starting a new one. :hat A few things: One, the new graphics look fantastic. They're completely true to the series and remind me of QFG3, only even better and more colorful. I especially like the Hero's Arabian garb, and the scene wi...

Well, if I recall correctly, I did try that... but it was back when I had a less powerful computer, DOSBox was in an earlier version (it seems to have improved immensely over the last few years), and I may or may not have known about the fan patches at that time. I think I probably did know about th...

It's a shame you skipped QFG2...it's a favourite among many of the fans, though if you dislike the parser, you're not gonna get very far into it. The game does take a while to pick up momentum. For me, playing QFG2 will be like playing a brand-new Quest for Glory game, just released; and the fact t...

It's said that pointing out one's own puns ruins the fun, but rodent you know it? I've a gnawing feeling I'll gopher it anyway. Eh, that's the best I can do on short notice. ;) I've worshiped the old Sierra On-Line adventure games for longer than I care to remember, and I'd like to offer my thanks ...
