Re: Help with my game

Ok so I've been hard at work on the next scene. It's after you go through the "hidden" door. As you can see, It's a waterfall. I'm going to have the character ride a log out of there, and then fall down a big waterfall down the side of the cliff. But for now, tell me what you think of the ...

Re: Help with my game

In the opening cutscene. Now all I need to do is figure out the scripting side of things, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Help with my game

I bet you guys thought I gave up. :lol Well, I did for a while, but now I'm working again. I just thought I'd post my progress on the airplane. I like it, with the cockpit and all. I think it's pretty much good. I'm also working another screen of background, and so far it's coming along really well....

Re: Help with my game

I think this looks much better (as far as the perspective is concerned):

Image

How do the metal plate line things and the bolts look? I really like the ones on the wings. The body... not so much. But tell me what you think.

Re: Help with my game

Hmmm. Well I'm trying to fix this. I just can't seem to get the wings down. It seems like the two wings are coming from two different points of view. Kinda like that one cube thing where if you look at it one way or the other it looks different. Like an optical illusion? Anyway, I like the view of t...

Re: Help with my background art?

Ok, rough draft of airplane done: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa291/Captain_M/planebetter.png For the most part, I'm pretty pleased with this. I'm going to add an open cockpit, and some yellow stripes as well as maybe some sort of number on the side. And maybe little things like showing the i...

Re: Help with my background art?

Ok, here is the new icon bar: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa291/Captain_M/iconbar_new.jpg I like it MUCH better. But about the nearest neighbor, is that in gimp? There are settings for scale under the interplation menu which are: None, Linear, Cubic, and Sinc. Would that be one of these? I th...

Re: Help with my background art?

Ok, the more I looked at my gui, the more I hated it. So I decided to draw actual icons instead of just words. I'm stuck on the the hand. I got a picture of a hand and just traced it but by the time I scaled it down to the icon size it just looked like a blurred mess. Is there any way around this?

Re: Help with my background art?

OK here is what I did: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa291/Captain_M/cavedifferent2.png I added the stalactite (the icecickle thing). I like that a lot. I think it might be good enough to just leave. I added my "secret door" behind the table. Sorry, I think I forgot to mention it. I m...

Re: Help with my background art?

Ok I tried what you said, but it still looks like crap. Maybe even more crap. I just can't do the fine details. What tool do you use to do the fine details? Like the bushes, I love your bushes. Is it just a paint tool or what? Anyways here is my attempt: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa291/Capt...

Re: Help with my background art?

Ok here is what I have for my second screen so far: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa291/Captain_M/cave.png The perspective on this one is messed up too. I'm not sure what needs to be done to fix it. I'd like to add some reflections off the walls from the candle and the entrance (the two sources...

Re: Help with my background art?

Yeah it's called burn and dodge. I guess my next step is just learn gimp better. But thanks a ton for all your help. I have a rough sketch of the second screen done, so I'll see what I can do with that!

Re: Help with my background art?

But I mean for the lighting do you just like use a paint tool and turn the opacity down? Maybe I just need to read some gimp/photoshop tutorials. But thanks, really thanks a ton. You don't even know how happy that makes me. As for the png instead of jpg, I tried importing it into my game and it trie...

Re: Help with my background art?

Woah! :rollin That looks so amazingly good! Thank you so much! What program do you use? Could you maybe just give me some pointers with actually using the program? What kind of schooling do you have? I just want to know! Thank you so much! Can I just use this in my actual game?

Re: Help with my background art?

Thanks for all the tips! I really like the tree and the rock. It makes it so much better. And as for the lighting, I imagine that this is a dense forest. So there really is no definite source of light. It just kinda glows. You know? And I use gimp so what I normally do save one as .xcf and then when...

I don't know. Yes, the perspective is messed up, but I mean I suck at this. I think it's on par with my skill. I actually have another guy do the fancy stuff. I come up with a rough sketch, and he makes it look pretty. I'm planning on taking some art classes next year, so that should help out. But u...

Ok thanks for the input!

@ xKiv: How would you reccomend fixing the perspective problem? I think I'd rather keep the well and fix everything else. I think it looks the best out of anything. Like it could almost be in a real sierra game.

But thanks a lot for the input! I'll see what I can do.
