Re: My Quest for Glory (ish) art
A creative person should be able to watch Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower, and A Chinese Ghost Story and come up with something suitably evocative. A Mandarin/English tourist phrase book would be handy too. And maybe the Tao Te Ching to enchance the dialogue with a few carefully scattered quotation...

Re: My Quest for Glory (ish) art
You make a good point, but I'd argue that QfG games have always featured disneyfied takes on cultural subjects and geographical settings. The last thing that you should include in a QfG-inspired game is gritty realism. You shouldn't need to possess a working knowledge of day-today life, and there's ...

Re: My Quest for Glory (ish) art
Eh, I'm not a fan of the idea of an oriental hero, myself. It bores me and it seems unnecessary. There's enough oriental fanboy/girlishness going on these days anyhow. Fair enough, but each to their own, and all that. The hero character isn't oriental, by the way. As far as your implied accusation ...

Re: My Quest for Glory (ish) art
I always wished that there was an oriental setting for one of the quest for glory games... Yeah, me too. My two favourite settings in the released games were Shapier and Tarna... Again - yeah, me too. But I just think that there is such a wealth of material for a QFG game to be found in Chinese and...

Re: The Ultimate Clash
On the whole, Lucasarts' adventure games felt more "crafted" than Sierra's games. The only Sierra adventure games that I liked were the first four Quest for Glory games, but I adore Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, The Curse of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and Indiana Jones and the F...

Re: qfg2 new adventure
Actually, I don't think that I'd want another game that used the same world setting or characters. A sequel to the QfG games should be a sequel in spirit only. The trouble with direct sequels is that they rely far too much on soap opera and nostalgia.

Re: Ideas for great new Sierra/Lucas Arts style games
I'm one of the rare few who loathes Sam n' Max and Broken Sword. So what do suggest? Hm. Perhaps Ankh? Honestly, though, I'd say that 95% of the adventure games that are released these days are unredeemably awful. Particularly the many euro-adventures that are released these days - games which would...

Re: My Quest for Glory (ish) art
Yet another update. I've quickly thrown a bunch of stuff into one shot. I believe that it conveys a better idea of what the finished "screenshot" will look like. The background buildings are just placeholders. I have a "prop" file full of little bits of Chinese architecture that ...

Re: qfg2 new adventure
The trouble is, since the protagonist wouldn't be the one to get the glory, the title would be misleading and cruel. How about a series that runs parallel to QfG2. "Here I am, sweating like a pig, covered in bites, cuts, and scrapes, risking my life every day to protect the citizens of our fair...

Re: My Quest for Glory (ish) art
Kind of in answer to various comments: I wanted to reimagine the hero as a young man who is fresh faced and naively eager for adventure. More of a hero in training than an actual hero. If you want to tie it into QfG mythology, perhaps he's the nephew of the QfG hero. Maybe he found a Famous Adventur...

My Quest for Glory (ish) art
The general art thread is getting rather cluttered and I've decided to leave it to far better artists than myself. All of my stuff will be posted here, because it's all based around a single question: what might a Quest for Glory game with an East Asian setting look like? Here's where I'm up to with...

Re: Poll: Which will release first?
I hope that TSL has been radically improved since the old public demo. I was distinctly unimpressed. Sure, it looked reasonably pretty, but the writing was very poor. Shoddy writing is a huge turn off for me - which is why I don't play any of the euro-dross adventures that are released these days.

Re: AGDI'S CAPABILITIES
Sorry, I wasn't too clear - you're right about the background art being quite lovely. What I meant to say is that the dated (ie. low) resolution compromised the quality of the visuals to a degree that is probably unacceptable to many modern gamers (ie. potential customers). This is fine for the old ...

Re: AGDI'S CAPABILITIES
I'd also argue that Al Emmo lacked broad appeal (the old West has historically shown itself to be an unpopular adventure game setting) and a charismatic lead character, and that these factors, along with the limited resolution of the graphics and production values that, whilst better than amature ga...

Re: What's Your Favourite Quest For Glory Game?
Quest for Glory III doesn't get enough love. Despite its shortcomings, it's my favourite game in the series. This is because the setting, the storyline, the writing, the artwork, and the music work together to create a wonderfully rich and evocative atmosphere. The overhead map approach to wildernes...

The games that I most looked forward to in the past were Quest for Glory IV and Curse of Monkey Island. This is because Quest for Glory III and Monkey Island 2 are two of my all time favourite games. I'm currently looking forward to Quest for Glory II VGA and A Vampyre Story. Isn't it weird how life...

Re: Favourite Original King's Quest Game
I've never liked the King's Quest series. Very twee, sickly, and hopelessly bland. KQ6 was probably the best out of the lot of 'em, but even that was pretty meh, in my opinion. Sorry guys. Should I expect a lynching?

Re: Hype shrouded in mystery
I love posts like this. You're insinuating that the game won't be released for months/years in order to draw out an "Oh, really? Well, it'll be released on the 22nd of August, smart guy!" type of response, right? Ho ho - good luck with that. Disclaimer: I don't think that QfG 2 will be rel...
