Apologies. I mean't that I had approached the castle doors and gone left to look at Caldaur's gravestone but when I returned to the doors, the ghosts were still there and killed me whenever I tried to enter the castle.

When I get to the swamp castle door, I go to the graveyard and look at Caldaur's grave, and the ghosts are supposed think I'm Caldaur and fly away, but they don't. Has anyone else experienced this?
