Yep, it's a classic. It's a reference to this movie:

AFAIR, in the EGA version, I always used sand for the air elemental, no problems at all. It works as fine as dirt.

Personally, I think PQ1 is one of the best AGI games ever. And PQ2 wasn't bad at all. And while PQ1VGA was pretty lame in comparison to its AGI counterpart, it was only after Iceman and PQ3 that my opinion of Jim Walls really started to decay.

Re: Buying Roland MT-32 Sound Module

I know that Sierra Music Central is working on a KQ7 soundtrack. But Alistair can take a while to get soundtracks out to make sure the quality is where it should be. Right now he's probably working full-hands on the Freddy Pharkas Soundtrack, so KQ7 is gonna take some time, (in the line of "so...

Re: Buying Roland MT-32 Sound Module

I use the M-Audio UNO with my Mac, no hassles at all. I'm using a Mac DOSBox custom version with CoreMIDI integration which someone created and posted at Queststudios a while back, but I understand that the latest DOSBox version already integrated that same MIDI support, so you should have no proble...

Re: Codename: ICEMAN... Sierra's worst adventure game?

I did finish Codename: Iceman. I even replayed it some years ago. But yeah, I agree with most opinions expresed here, the game was absolutely lacking in terms of puzzles, there were at least 3 continous sequences of SHOW YOUR ID in order to GET INTO BUILDING/ROOM/CAR (very poor thinking and boring g...

Re: Buying Roland MT-32 Sound Module

That's strange, AFAIK SysEx messages are standard MIDI protocol for any MIDI device. But well, try the M-Audio Uno, it works perfectly for me (using a CM32L, mind you).

Re: Get Portal for free and Steam officially ported to Linux!

I got it last week. Thanks for letting us know! :)

Frankly, I didn't know about Portal. Now that I've tried it (and finished it), I love the concept, it's quite challenging, although I found the game surprisingly short. But hey, it was free, you can't beat that! :D

Re: Buying Roland MT-32 Sound Module

Also, if I get an SC-55 in the future, would I have to change my DOSBox config file every time I wanted to switch being playing MT-32 games and SC-55/General MIDI games? No, since both modules would use the same MIDI-USB interface, or the same joystick output, I presume. You would have to change yo...

Re: Combat is *way* too hard

Me neither. I used a filter once because I just needed to beat the Pizza Elemental and was having a hard time. But as I said, with practice it became natural. Now I can beat the PE after 3 or 4 tries, even with the thief. No slowing down the game, no filters or anything at all. ;)

Re: Combat is *way* too hard

Indeed. That was the only way I could beat the PE the first time, by changing the graphics so that the game would run slower. At first, I was mad that the combat system was so complicated, specially with the PE, but I have to admit that after a couple of playthroughs (is that a word?) now I can play...

Re: Buying Roland MT-32 Sound Module

MIDI and audio cables, for sure. AC adapter, probably, but you should always check voltage and amperage for each device (voltage on your adapter should match exactly the voltage in the module, while amperage should be higher in your adapter than in your module (the module takes only the amperes it n...

So QFGF, you were thinking a KQ4? Mmhh... Man, I'm clueless. Everyone seems to be beating around the bush, and AGC2's replies do not confirm or deny anything, really. Re: Prepare...

Particularly with KQ2, the added story elements worked very well and added more drama to the adventure. I feel stumped. :eek Well, to be honest, there WAS some discussion in other forums about the validity of adding new stuff, you know, without Roberta Williams actually writing the story changes. I...

I think most VGA games added the posibility of using both Sblaster and MT32, but earlier games don't have both options, though. But I'd go MT32 over digital effects any day! ;)

Good thing you got it working!

These are some games with awesome MT32 music (for me, at least ;)) : Larry 3 and 5, Space Quest 4, King's Quest 5, Conquest of Camelot, Conquest of the longbow, Quest for glory 2, Police Quest 2. Be sure to try them.

I saw time ago in the AGS forums a game in production called Kinky Island, and I could perfectly imagine an 'X' at the end of the title. I use this one with no problems:

although I don't use WIn7 so I'm not sure.

But yes, if you use DOSBox it should be easy, at least it was for me and I didn't have to use midi mapping or anything. Just kinda Plug N Play :D

Since it seems pbpb33 has not yey bought the module, I thought I might add my two cents. I own a CM32L and a SoundCanvas SC-55 ST. I think they are both fantastic. My enjoyment of Sierra games has never been the same since I bought my first module (the CM32L) back in 1990. MI is a musician and knows...

QFG2 minor glitch

I'm not sure if this has been reported, and I'm even less sure if there'll be a QFG2 1.2, but well... I just noticed that if the first time you go to the desert happens to be at night, the hero theme and the night music kind of crash with each other, so the hero theme gets cut. As I said, a very min...
