Re: QFG5 WINXP ISSUES

Hmm... okay. I've opened up my icon to see what I did to set up QFG5, and it looks like I actually have compatibility disabled. I do, however, have "disable visual themes" and "turn off advanced text services" checked. Unfortunately, I cannot recall if that did anything, or if th...

Re: QFG5 WINXP ISSUES

QFG5 does have some issues. I hope you've tried the unofficial patch? I'm going to assume so since you've heard of it. Have you tried compatibility modes? If you used the unofficial compatibility patch you could try using Windows 2000 compatibility mode; weird, I know, but I believe that's the OS th...

Re: Knights of the Old Republic MMO Confirmed!!

The Force Unleashed does look like fun, though I'm having trouble figuring out what makes it all that new compared to the Jedi Knight series. Aside, of course, from the requisite iterations on graphics & physics.

Re: Knights of the Old Republic MMO Confirmed!!

Sadly, I doubt we'll see either a rest or a rebirth. The prequels were about the closest I imagine the franchise will come to rebirth, and they weren't the greatest addition... KOTOR is probably the closest you'll come to a fresh approach. Setting thousands of years before the movies = all the basic...

Re: Knights of the Old Republic MMO Confirmed!!

Have you played the KOTOR games, Gronagor? They're quite good. An MMO sounds like a terrible idea to me at first glance, though. Both Bioware's KOTOR1 and Obsidian's KOTOR2 were defined, and succeeded on, good story. Making that setting and that type of storytelling work in a MMO... I doubt it would...

Re: What AGDI Expects From Fans?

As has been covered in other threads, the AGDs can't accept direct donations or anything of that sort, anyhow. Being good fans is the most one can do directly in terms of the remakes. That said, they definitely deserve support for their efforts. If you want to give them a buck, you can do it by gett...

Re: The Gamers Thread: PS3, PC, Wii, 360... pick your poison!!

Nintendo figures have since confirmed that new Zelda, Mario, and Pikmin are in development. However, given that absolutely nothing was shown of them, I'd imagine they won't be released until sometime after the next E3. (Or probably even later in Mario/Zelda's case; Miyamoto specifically referenced t...

I guess that'll be another exciting thing for us to find out when it's released. :)

Solarkid: Al Emmo is on a number of download services already, some may have such protection. Though I know others do not... and good for them, I say. All protections are ultimately crackable. I have no idea whether Steam's protection has been cracked, but it doesn't really matter if alternate copie...

Firefox is horrible on my Mac. It's slow, choppy and takes a while to load. Safari is perfect and meets all my needs. I remember reading somewhere that Safari is still king of the performance tests on Mac. Can't remember where, though. From what I've seen, though, Firefox is the best browser on Win...

I agree. And I think it applies doubly so to bugs... finding out that I've been cheated or trapped by a bug really breaks the experience for me. Thank you, AGDI, for spending all this time making sure the game is released in top form. :)

Re: Voice Acting in games

It's different with a game like QFG4 or 5 when the voices are a part of the game from the beginning. Actually, I think QFG4's voices were added in later. Still was great, though. :D Hmmm... not 100% sure, but I think they both were released at the same time. The Floppy version without voices and th...

Voice Acting in games

Figured I'd split off the discussion of voice acting here, since it's interesting but wandering away from the real topic of the QFG2 update thread... It's different with a game like QFG4 or 5 when the voices are a part of the game from the beginning. Actually, I think QFG4's voices were added in lat...

Yeah, I doubt that will have any impact. No one seems to be worried about the "whether" of the approval anyhow, given AGDI's existing relationship with Vivendi and past approval of the KQ remakes. It sounds like more a question of "when" they will get around to reviewing the game...

Were you asking if all the QFGs are going to be remade? If so, no. All the other games are already available in VGA/point & click form (and then there's QFG5 too :)). QFG2 was the only one left with only a EGA/parser version, and the only one AGDI's remaking.

Even donations are not going to be possible, I believe. However, if you want to do something that will put money their pockets, you might want to buy their other game if you haven't already. Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman's Mine is available directly from Himalaya Studios (same AGDs, new lack of anon...

I believe Vivendi owns/equals Sierra now, hence why they're sending it in. IIRC, the AGDIs have an actual agreement with Vivendi, so I'd imagine the review is pretty much a formality. Probably just making sure nothing objectionable is being put in a property of theirs?
