I believe I recognize the name Jamy from an old QFG5 site, but the name could just as well have been appropriated. Probably best to remove the link pending an actual explanation.

The problems are one and the same - the game cannot find the voice pack, and that is why the screens flash by. You could just mount the CD in DOSBox under the same letter you installed the game from, in which case it should be able to find and play the voices off CD. However, I'd recommend copying t...

I took a stab at import files with a hex editor once. It's definitely not in a format my meager skills can figure out. :)

Back then at some point you would almost always have to do what we called "scripting"  (basically letting the comm program you used to sign onto the BBS run the character automatically through a preprogrammed set of demands.) - don't even know if they have something like that nowadays. Fr...

Hmm, now I'm trying to guess what the rusty nail is for...
Maybe it shows up in jail if the Thief doesn't get the Katta Pin before leaving Shapeir?
Though I must admit, this remake is probably the least tiresome to test of all the games we've worked on so far. The spells and comba...

QFG4's import process is known to mess up spell skill values, including sending them up into ridiculous 4 or 5 digit ranges. So I wouldn't worry too much re: 1 and 3; it shouldn't mess up your export into Dragon Fire. Getting the Heal ability is really weird though. And I'm not sure what consequence...

Depends on how you define evil. Kidnapping a child away from her parents is pretty bad in my book. ;) But she certainly did mean well when it came Tanya herself, yes.

That's unfortunate, there are some nasty bugs if you can't patch it to 1.2 update... I wouldn't recommend giving up on patching unless you can help it. So you've tried applying the Win2k fan update in addition to the 1.2 patch? If you have and that's what you're getting trouble under, have you tried...

Well, the games do correspond to different seasons, from Spring through Winter. (QFG3 is just kinda hanging out there between Summer and Fall, since it wasn't originally planned.)

No technofreakery necessary. ;) All you have to do is download the QFG4CD patch from http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/ and unzip the contents into your QFG4CD folder. (I believe it'll work for either DOS or Windows? However, it only works for the CD version, not floppy.) Boom, you can slip down th...

AGP's suggestion is a good one, you can find NewRisingSun's patches for QFG1VGA (and QFG3 and QFG4CD, also highly recommended) at http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/ Unfortunately, I don't see anything about combat being changed in his notes about the QFG1VGA patch, so I doubt it will help. :/ Have ...

Erpy makes a good argument. Another point I'd make is that all her evil actions we have heard of seem to have been taken after she was already a vampire, and while I don't think QFG has ever defined exactly what happens when you become a vampire, most mythologies I've seen use the tack that becoming...

I don't know anything about AGS, but it looks like you're at the max with this particular data point. Did it mean any problems making the game?

I'm not sure the install will make much difference. All the bigger installs do is copy more data over to the HD, so that less needs to be read from the CD during the game, which can make things a bit jumpy. It shouldn't make any major difference. To change compatibility mode, right-click on the shor...

You've tried changing the compatibility to different versions of Windows? Also, judging from the point at which it crashes, another possibliity is that it's encountering an error when trying to check for the CD - Dragon Fire will start up without trying to detect the CD, but it will check for it onc...

Joysticks are still around, and have entered the USB era. They just aren't used for as many games anymore; I think they're pretty much limited to flight/space sims.

So you'll be allowed to back up, interesting... useful for the magic user, I would imagine. Thief as well I guess, since dagger throwing is in. :D

I guess if you keep backing up and waiting for your enemy to follow, you'll eventually get trapped and forced to fight?

I'd say the Demonlord. He was the only one trying to rain literal hell on earth. The others just wanted power, even if they mistakenly did things that would have also had terrible consequences for the world. (Or in Baba Yaga's case, she just seems to be grumpy and soulless.) Katrina I never quite un...

I'm pretty sure this is just a difference between the ways QFG3 and QFG4 handle importing. QFG3 will add 100 to all your stats if you import from QFG1, basically giving you the benefit of the doubt as to how well you would have improved your stats in Shapeir. QFG4, on the other hand, will merely com...

yeah I had that problem too. I got tired of that, so I went looking around to find out how to make QG4 work on DOSBOX. Wow, that's some attention to detail on the sound. :) It's cool you record your own stuff. I imagine I'll appreciate it with QFG2 (and now realize I have on the KQ remakes). All too often I'll hear a sound in a game and go "Hey, they also used that one for an interface noise in game X..." ...

Re: The problem

According to It's a systemic glitch that, if you've already performed the trigger once, it will eventually hit you, just like the statistic screen consistently crashing QfG4, and all you can do is restart the game (any saved game after MM usage will carry the glitch). Now you've got me worried. :ee...
