BS1 and BS2 are very good. BS3 is reasonable I liked the way they implemented the 3D well, apart from the action sequences (I HATE those). Especially since one them you can't even complete without attaching a joystick. (The one where you have to walk through a corridor that is diagonal. Instead of letting the cursor keys point in that direction too they just go up/down left/right so you walk against the wall (very frustrating and very bad game design)). Still have to beat the end boss (yes they decided they needed one of those too, sigh)

I didnt notice that as I hooked up my PS2 pad to my PC.

But I think the game (BS3) was more designed for a console and thus be played with a pad, which sucks for PC users so if you have a pad use it for PC as that's the way its meant to be played (as nVidia say lol).

O beat the game no problem and I used a keyboard the whole way through, which part are you talking about?

Hi,

It's been a while back since I played that part but I believe you had to hide by hanging on an edge ('omega cavern') than pull up, then have to flee because they see you, and run down the hallway which is diagonally while the cursor keys go left and right.

Maybe it is also because I just don't like that kind of stuff. I'd rather explore and solve puzzles.

Anyone has played Still Life 1 and/or 2? I saw SL 2 the other day in a store and the graphics looked very nice, and it LOOKED like an adventure game more than an action game, but you can never be to sure these days.

What do you mean? There is no Still Life 2.

But yea Still Life was a pretty cool game, I did get bored part way through but it is good.

Perhaps haradan was referring to Post Mortem, the predecessor to Still Life?

BTW, Angelus, referring to your remark about FF music, you should know that Nobuo Uematsu, the primary FF composer up until now, has composed the theme for the upcoming worldwide PLAY! symphony tour of video game music.  You can hear the theme and read about the tour at the official website.

What the heck, you want something to waste hours on, try http://amnwaterman.tripod.com/edricksquest.zip.  I made it with RPG Maker 2003.  It's a prequil to Dragon Warrior 1, looks a lot like it, and I think it could be fun.  Full playable, start to end.  Though it's...not perfect, no crashing horible bugs. :) If the site's down, try again another time, it's limited bandwidth.

Thanks Braniac!

Btw I read some rumours that Nobou no longer works for Square is that right?

I know he doesnt compose for FFXII.

What would you all say that Broken Sword, Longest Journey, and the Siberia games most play like? I'm curious, because one thing I really miss about adventure games is the type of humor you'd find in Quets for Glory. Yeah it was corny...and often times bordering on plain-out bad...but it was fun! Do Syberia and Longest Journey (and Broken Sword...don't hit me, but I had never heard of the games before now!) take themselves super-serious, or are they pretty fun? I love BG2 because, while it's pretty hard-core serious, you have characters like Minsc (and Boo!) that really keep it entertaining. Just curious.

Also, does anyone have any great past adventure games to recommend? I can't remember which Sierra Robin Hood-esque games I played, but it sure was fun...and I know there's others by Sierra out there. I'm "in progress" with Grim Fandango, and I also need to go back and complete Full Throttle (what a fun game!). I've played most of the classic Sierra/Lucas Arts games...but I know there's some I've missed...and plenty outside of those companies that I haven't even touched.

How about great game soundtracks in general...not necessarily limited to Sierra? I bet the moderators would know some good ones, aye (I know I always call you guys out...but it's only because I know you're a bright bunch!)?

Siberia and longest journey do not have much humor.  The broken sword has some more (though it is not like monkey island or day of the tentacle).

The bs series does make you smile on occasion. They have a lot of funny remarks. From the same makers and a free download is BAS beneath a steel sky, certainly worth checking out.

However these are all great games. For humor I checked my bookshelf unfortunately there are not many games with a lot of humor. One I really like is westwood studios "hand of fate" (kyrandiaII). The first from the series is fun too but has things like mazes and such. I assume you have played torin's passage too, which comes close to full throttle. Zork grand inquisitor is a lot of fun to play, and as with all games in the series a lot of fantasy.

You might like runnaway a road adventure. Which is very 'cartoon like' though it doesn't have a lot of humor in it, it is a very good game.

Well if I can think of more I let you know.

Moderator or not, don't make me hurt you. :evil

Anyways, yes, Nobuo is now officially a freelancer - he's the president of his own company Smileplease and has not been directly employed by Square Enix since 2004.  He will also be composing for Hironobu Sakaguchi's three upcoming RPGs (Cry On, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon) and was actually repsponsible for the vocal theme "Kiss Me Good-bye," performed by Angela Aki, that will be used in Final Fantasy XII; the rest of the soundtrack is handled by Hitoshi Sakimoto (composer for FF Tactics and Vagrant Story, among others).  He also is still performing with the Black Mages and is one of the greatest supporter for the US and international VGM tours around.

BTW, moonlit, I'm with you; the Kyrandia games are a lot of fun.  The first one was one of my first adventure games.  The Hand of Fate is pretty cheesy though, but the third, Malcolm's Revenge, can be quite laugh-out-loud funny at times.  Who hasn't ever wanted to be a cranky, cynical, ex-tyrant jester at least once in their lives? :D Torin's Passage is great too - just watch out for the one spot you can miss three points (nothing's more frustrating than finishing with 996 out of 999 points when the game was meant to be designed so you would always get all the points).

Yes there sure was a lot of cheese in II :-). I found kyrandia three a bit difficult and sometimes tedious but it was fun nonetheless. They can be a bit hard to setup on modern machines but I finally managed to get at least I and II to work on XP-Pro and scummvm seems to try to make it run under there engine.

I can't believe I forgot Simon the Sorcerer I and II. Those are games with a lot of humor. It seems you can still buy them at the adventuresoft site http://www.adventuresoft.com/. Those are fun, you can't die no mazes and a lot humor.

Personally, QFG2 is in the top ten, just not the top:
1. Kings Quest 9/The Silver Lining
2.Quest for Infamy
3.King's Quest 3
4.Project Katrina
5.The Jarada Knight's project.
6.Hero 6
7.Space Quest 7
8.Space Quest 2x
9. Quest for Glory 2
Don't misunderstand me, I am looking forward to QFG2, enormously, it's just that I have been looking foreward to all of these projects for a long time.

It's amazing that a lot of the games you have listed above are actually coming along quite nicely (or at least from what I can tell). It just seems like it would be impossible to keep a project alive when the majority of the people working on it are doing so remotely. I've heard that The Silver Lining is close to completion...are any of the others near as well?
