Game file sizes -- what's the differences?

#1 Post by wilson » Wed May 24, 2006 6:02 am

I downloaded the KQ1 remake back in June 2003 but I see they are different sizes now. Has anything been removed or changed? The file sizes are:

KQ1 (v2) - 22.3MB | KQ1 (v3) - 20.5MB
KQ1 (older music pack) - 33.3MB | KQ1 (Newer music pack) -26.8MB
KQ1 (older speech pack) - 17.8MB | KQ1 (Newer speech pack) - 2.89MB

The music pack I can understand but the speech pack seems significantly smaller? How come?? Thanks and have great day!

I'm not sure exactly; it's been quite a while.  IIRC, though, the older speech pack was just uncompressed wave files, while the newer one has Ogg Vorbis compression.  That would account for the significant reduction in file size.  The music pack, I think, just changed from MP3 to Ogg Vorbis, so there's a much less significant reduction in file size there.

Thanks for clearing that up! Just more question. Nothing has been removed from then to now as far as dialogue of the characters, music and such?

If you mean as far as gameplay goes nothing has been changed. Nothing important to the story anyway. Might be a couple interface enhancements like the ability to use the middle button.

I'm just guessing. But as far as gameplay, nothing.

The game play is the same. No dialogue changes or anything. There have been bug fixes, better compression, and an easter egg added. That's about it I think.
