Wow, I didn't realise that "stiffie" was anything more than a high-school crude joke. I'm surprised people used that term, it sounds so ... juvenile.  :lol

Floppies are Floppies whether 5.25" or 3.5".

Well... does it make sense to call a 3.5" a floppy?? How do you differentiate when someone talks about his floppy (which could mean 3 things)

But what does it really matter? Both are out...

Edit: Oh well. Just noticed on wikipedia that it's only called 'Stiffies' here in South Africa. Interesting. *shrug*

Yes, we've always called both 5.25" and 3.5" floppies which was short for floppy disc. I used to call the 3.5 hard discs also, but my dad had to correct me. A hard-disc, he explained was much bigger and could hold a lot more data, but was also more expensive.

The 3.5 discs may have a harder casing than the 5.25 casing, but on the inside of both of them, the actual disc is pretty the same, being that very floppy flimsy magnetic material.

I always thought it was just easier to keep calling them floppies. It's essentially a removable disk, same as the 5.25", so I figured someone down the line decided to call 'em all floppies. Either that, or the tech geeks wanted to keep everyone else out of the know by confusing them senseless.

Okay, I couldn't get it to work, so I just pulled my old P1 with Win95 out of storage. I SWEAR I shall be playing this game by nightfall!!...or, morningdawn, at least, since it's technically already night because the sun is gone.

Speaking of Geek warring, I actually heard my Computer Science TA talk about how GIF is pronounced.

As in

Got a kick out of that.

Strong Bad is your TA? lol

I didn't even know there was a debate roaming around about how to pronounce "gif," I just assumed it was like "gift" minus the "t."

Hehe Klytos and Sal. :) But doesn't Floppy sound juvenile as well?? No matter whether you call it stiffies, "Floppy and Hard drive"... seems just as juvenile, doesn't it???

Floppy and Hard disk sound like they describe the difference between the two types of disk. Anyway, it's not really important is it? Call them what you want, they're all obsolete now.

Well Gronagor, I guess terminology can be used "anywhichway" depends where your head is at! ....Sal

On a different note..Just finished playing KQ4 (original)  and had forgotten just how good it was..I downloaded and installed KQ5 and have started playing that. This plays excellently on my Xp comp. The graphics are awesome and remind me a bit of the old "floppy disc" game "Camelot"... Sal

Yeah, there's quite a few here who would like to remake Camelot at some stage... don't know whether this will ever happen.
