They cancelled that project a couple years ago.

Actually, Roayal Quest is being developed now.  It concerns Graham's quest against fat fingers on Qwerty-boards.  It's going to rock.

Bt was making fun of your typo.

Royal Quest will never be released.

The project was cancelled in late 2001. At this point, the chances of it being released are absolutely zero. While the basic idea of the game was nice, the execution was just too much reliant on unrefined shock value and we felt completing the game as it was would have cost us more fans than it would have gained us.

Thanks for the reply. The game sounded bad ass too bad.

What?  Vick's Vapo-rub?  It's great for colds!

Royal Quest DID sound like a lot of fun.  Actually, a total Sierra Parody game would be awesome - where ALL the Sierra Characters and locations come together.  "Sierra Quest" - the ultimate parody game.  Featuring Graham, Roger, Larry, The Hero etc. and locations from all the games.

Now I'm babbling.

Not just Sierra characters, but LucasArts characters such as Bernard, Purple Tentacle, Sam & Max, and Indiana Jones as well. Atrus from Myst, George Stobbartt, and various other adventure mascots will also be included.

And the whole plot would be something revolving around a cheesy message telling kids to stay away from drugs. Oh, and the villain is cigarette smoke.

Now THERE'S an idea! We could make millions!!

Millions?  WE COULD MAKE BILLIONS!

Okay, I will now produce this, myself.  I just need a programmer, animator, artist, testers and virtually everything else to go out and make it.

Ooh! Oooh! And if it isn't your cup of tea, you can simply switch the game to 'Doom' mode and start shooting!  :p

just to clarify on MIs post the Broken Sword guy is George Stobbart with two Bs and two Ts. One of the funnier protagonists of adventure gaming.

So which is it then? Two t's or one? You spelled it with only one.

My bookmark still says "Royal Quest Website" because that's the title when I found the site so many years ago (late 1999), and I just keep importing my bookmarks when I change browsers, or update the link, but keep the title.

I always wanted to see RQ, but the AGDI's would never let any info out, not even the unfinished source (I begged for it many years ago).

O well.

Obviously if they didn't want to finish it they're not going to risk releasing the source for other people to finish it.

Did they say somewhere that they don't want anyone else to make the game either?  And what's to stop someone from starting the game from scratch, based on the info already revealed?

Well, that's the basic idea. Since AGDI is associated with Royal Quest, we wouldn't really like someone else to take the source and create it. Heck, a large part was already finished, so mostly it would still be our work being released.

As for the info...that really wasn't much. 4 screenshots or so and an idea, but never a demo or a script or anything else. That's probably the reason there's still a good deal of people saying it's a pity it didn't get released. Everyone who actually read a bit of the script thought it was a good thing it was cancelled.

MI, considering the initials of your handle, if that's not a bad joke, I may have to beat you over the head with that guitar in your avatar. :p

Brainiac, considering your handle, I may have to beat you over the head for being unsure as to whether it's a bad joke or not :p.
