Here's an idea. How about an Quest for Glory 4 1/2 EGA? I was just playing the ega version of Quest for Glory I. So you want to be a Hero AKA Hero's Quest as a fighter. With points for each stat! and I was thinking why not make it like that? Sound good or not really?

Anyway just a thought.

Until next time folks keep cool   :smokin

Well, for one, it's probably the very thing that you'd get VU's ire over. Second of all, I believe parody should be a lot more subtle than that game.

There's already a QFG 4 1/2 out there in VGA. Why'd you want to backport it to EGA?

He just wants to fill the gaps. ;) Just like the talk of VGA-ing QfG5. :)

Guys, I think that one thing that should be said is that I don't believe that 3D games, or 3D adventure games are really that 'bad'. The truth is, the biggest problem was execution. They weren't done well and effectively, this is why they weren't as good as the older 2D adventure games. Remember... adventure games were originally text-only (and even into the graphics era, there were still plenty of those around), and then went on to 8 color AGI, then 16 color SCI, both of which used a type in parser, and then to 256 color and then to the SCI32 which was much more advanced.

My point is, adventure games didn't stop at one point in time, they moved along with the advances in technology, too. However, I guess the best remembered Sierra games were the ones in the 256 color VGA era.

Till next time stay cool  :smokin

AGI was already 16 colors. The main difference in graphics is that the width was only 160 pixels, versus SCI's 320.

Only for the graphics. Look at the font in an AGI game. The game is actually rendered in 320x200 but the graphics are only 160x200. But yes, there was definitely 16 colours. SCI looks like more because the colours are dithered.

Right. It's only the graphics that are double-width. It's simply amazing how much difference that extra width resolution makes in the appearance.

I was never sure if it was just me or if QfG dropped a little in plot and humor as the graphics increased (with the exception of QG4). It always seemed like the largest of graphics jumps also saw a decline in the game--Trial by Fire to Wages of War and Shadows of Darkness to Dragon Fire.

Really? Hmmm... if you compare QfG3 against QfG1 there's a big difference in 'depth of the plot', so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.

Aren't you just still suffering from the 'I thought QfG3 was supposed to be vampires' syndrome? :) There's a lesson for all game developers... don't give a sneak-peak of what's to come at the end of your game. The fans WILL hold you to it, and it will come back and bite you in the....
