In QFG1, non-thieves can join the thieves guild and purchase lockpicks and toolkits.

If you have the thief skills, you can make the thief sign, even if you're not actually the thief class.

I wrote my own Quest for Glory file editor in C 6 years ago. Don't remember how great it was, but it did work. I'll test it and possibly upload it here.

In QFG2 it's stealth and picking locks. Might as well, since stealth is required to break in.

Actually, I think it's either/or, as I know I've had a Fighter with Stealth make the sign.

Hmm, I thought I'd tried a fighter with stealth in QFG1, and couldn't make the thief sign. It's been so long I may have forgotten though. Mybad.
