Her name is Elyssa.

She is an undead that drowns people and then eats them.

I don't think she eats them. I don't recall the game even suggesting as such.

The manual mentions Rusalki drown people as revenge for their own untimely deaths in the water. Elyssa isn't shy about admitting she drowns people, but the only "reason" she gives is the fact it's in a Rusalka's nature to drown victims and it's too strong to fight against.

That's actually something I've always noticed about undead in most mythologies (both real and fictional). They typically have no choice but to obey their inherently "evil" nature. In the end, being undead means you're worse than dead since you're forced to exist with no choice, no free will, as nothing but a slave to your nature for the rest of your miserable existence. I'd imagine Elyssa's spirit, wherever it went, is grateful to the Paladin for her release from that fate.

I think that's the intentional purpose. To be undead is a curse for attempting to cheat the natural end of life so I can understand why an undead being is twisted and soulless. Then again, I'm open to creative reinterpretations.

Well, the only problem with that is undead like the Rusalki. They didn't try to cheat death, they were just killed in a violent manner. As a matter of fact, a fair bit of "restless spirit" lore is more about sinful living or lack of burial than actually trying to cheat death.

Dude, that painting with Brauggi and the Hero is absolutely breathtaking! Very well done indeed.

I also loved the Rusulka sketch, too. You know, I've been taking some art lessons (in addition to learning from books) and I have drawn some few minor sketches here and there. Most of them are not finished works. I hope to get that good some day and produce masterpieces like yours!

EDIT: You know what's so funny? I've been thinking about drawing some of the screens in the game exactly as they're shown. In fact, I wanted to draw the town screen in QFG 4 with the Burgomaster myself (followed by Erana's staff, that place was just gorgeous).

Till next time stay cool 8))

Thanks for the comments!

I've been away for a bit, mostly occupied by this:

Image

I developed the game with my coder brother Kimmo. We hired three contractors for audio: Voice acting by Egoraptor, sound fx by Tapio Liukkonen and music by Tapani Siirtola.
It has already climbed to number 7 in US iTunes, I couldn't be happier! :) We're now working on additional content and improving the engine.

On another note: Maybe it's just me but I think I'm seeing the resurrection of adventure genre happening on iPhone of all platforms!
Within a short time frame Lucas Arts released Monkey Island remake on it, Simon the Sorcerer was also released and Beneath a Steel Sky is coming soon. That Monkey Island remake is selling really well at a $7.99 a piece! Don't be fooled by the price tag because you have to take into account that developer takes 70% of every unit sold on iPhone games, that's pretty awesome compared to the retail model where you're left with a small percentage.

Monkey Island:

Beneath a Steel Sky:

Simon the Sorcerer:

Now if Activision Blizzard had any sense in their head they would hire AGDInteractive to port all those awesome Sierra remakes for iPhone ;)

The resolution of the device is perfect for adventure games. I think one reason why the genre started fading back in the 90's was the ever increasing resolutions which required much more expensive art. For example 1600x1200 resolution background takes around ten times longer to paint than 320x240. I think the Monkey Island 1 Xbox 360 version looks rushed for that very reason: it just doesn't have the necessary detail, on iPhone it looks just fine.

Now if I only had time to finish that Brauggi painting! :)

Well... it is about time this community did something about it! I don't think Activision has experience the Sierra-fan community pressure yet! VU did, but eventually went after the fan-projects. *sigh*

That looks really good Timo! Some screenshots?

Gronagor: Thanks! The tagline is a bit misleading, it's not an adventure game. We had a tagline contest and that was the winning entry :) Minigore is an action game, here's a screenshot:

Flight of the Amazon Queen was also released on the iPhone recently:

Maybe an online petition could get Activision's attention? They work pretty nicely at this internet age.

Oooohhhh, it reminds me of the "Night of the Cephalopods", another wonderful minigame. :D

Congratulations for your success!! The game looks really cute and violent, heh.
