I am pleased to see KQ4 at the top of the list- for one reason above all others- there is no "point and click" version of KQ4 in existence, anywhere, as far as I know.

KQ1-KQ3 have all been released (by AGD and others). KQ5, KQ6 and KQ7 were already "point and click" to begin with.

As much as it pains me to admit, many players today simply REFUSE to play a game that relies on a text parser.

For example:

On a whim, I showed my wife KQ5 one day, and I was shocked to see that she LOVED it. We played through KQ1 by Sierra, 2+ by AGD, and the new KQ3 by AGD- she loved them all. She also loved part 5 and part 6. But there is a massive hole for her- a game called KQ4, which was one of the hardest (and thus best) of the original text-based KQ.

My three cents.

Wow so many choices it's hard to choose. As a Sierra fan for so many years, I think remaking games that are already VGA and above (ie. QG3) shouldn't be the first priority. I would rather AGD first release games to fill in any non-VGA holes left, particularly within the longer series such as:

King's Quest 4
Police Quest 2
Leisure Suit Larry 2 & 3

Of course there are other shorter series too like Conquest of Camelot and Colonel's Bequest. And then the one-offs like Gold Rush and Iceman.

Anyone interested to see an Adventure in Serenia/Wizard and the Princess remake? That was way before my time, but it's generally considered part of King's Quest (as a prequel) right?

Having said that, I wouldn't be as interested in seeing Space Quest 2 or 3 from AGD yet, because I believe IA is already working on SQ2. Maybe better to leave SQ as IA "territory". >D

I'd love to see King's Quest IV, just to see the remake cycle complete, and so I can play the entire series back to back in stunning graphics, and to tie the extended (very well done!) narrative together!

Main reason for this post though is this: I personally have always liked Larry 2 and 3 just the way they are. I actually think the textual interface adds a very nice layer of engagement to the game, and I was initially quite ambivalent towards the switch to point-and-click interfaces. In the AGDI remakes the new interface works beautifully, but that's also considering the exceptionally early and underdeveloped nature of the original games.

Larry 2 and 3, on the other hand, had already come quite a long way, and they actually look pretty good. I enjoy playing them every now and then to this day. Now, Larry 1, that's another story, and while the original does have a huge place in my heart, I understand that it's a bit hard on the eye. However, I was not at all a fan of the overly cartoony VGA remake of that one. So... if it's between something similar to that and nothing at all, then I'd rather Larry 2 and 3 be left alone.

You guys seem to have figured out the spirit and tone of King's Quest perfectly, so I'd say that's by far the most promising direction.

King's Quest IV
Larry II
Larry III

would be awesome!

I know you said in your FAQs that you're not going to make any more free games and game conversions, but regardless: Would it be possible, purely for giggles, to see maybe one piece of concept art or mock-up for each of the games you considered remaking? That would be a great way to see the direction in which you would want to take a particular game.

I take it that for King's Quest you'd stick to the established style, so that's exempt. But I'd love to see what you have in mind for Space Quest of Police Quest.

There isn't really any concept art for any other games that I know of. There's the SQ2VGA demo AGDI made way back when they were called Tierra, when they cancelled the project. The screen in the credits of KQ3Redux where the bard walks and sits on a log and starts playing is a screen remade from KQ4. Other than that, concept art doesn't really exist unless the project has been started.

I'm going to have to break with the majority and say "no" on Kings's Quest IV. It was pretty much a the same thing as KQI and II, just with Rosella instead of Graham. It was one of the more boring of the series.

I'd love to see a de-make of Quest for Glory V, or even an alternate game. I had high hopes for that one and was kinda disappointed with it, so it would be cool to see what AGDI could do with it.

NEW (non-remakes) games would be cool too. I am excited for Mage's Initiation.

Truthfully, I think that King's Quest V is in need of a remake more than any of these others. See my thread in the Game Making Forum to see why...

Well, it looks like I'm a little late to the party, but I just had to register so I could throw in my two cents.

Conquests of the Longbow.

Its already VGA, I know, and I admit there are many more great games in more dire need of a graphics overhaul.

But, this is a pretty underrated Sierra release that I've downloaded off abandon ware sites again and again over the years. More times than some of their famous titles. I've always enjoyed playing it, and frankly wished there was more of it to play. And there could be. It's got killer potential as a redux. I'm not a programmer, but a couple of added Quest for Glory style RPG elements might not go amiss.

After seeing what AGD and the guys at IA (I never got the idea they were competitors, so sorry if that's the case) have done with previous remakes, I'd cast my magic IF for Conquests of the Longbow to get a fresh coat of paint and a couple of extras.

Mask of Eternity: Point & Click adventure remake
Quest for Glory 5 VGA de-make
Quest for Glory 3 remake (fixed points system)

Leisure Larry Laffer 2 owned by Codemasters ?? Black Cauldron for Disney, I can guess why, but Codemasters... They own the right of adaptation of Dizzy's Adventures, I believe.

Don't mind about the order.

Why remake King Quest 8 : Mask of Eternity ? Because there are many things in this sequel that have lost the "soul" of the other King Quest, Silver Lining included ( and very nicely made I must add ). When it was still a project, I had many hopes. It was about to be in 3D, and I don't mind the fisherman ( though he isn't from Graham family, nor do we know if has all the qualities required for a future-king ). I confess, not I haven't played the game, but I also bought it but *never* played it.

However, the game felt like too much time has passed, why making Graham that old ? He hasn't lived as much adventure as expected ( thanks to fan games who are doing a lot to fix it ). Why using a complete stranger ? The game felt too much like an action game with puzzles. The behavior didn't seemed to count. The game felt like a part "competitiveness" i.e doing only what is "trend" and exactly the same thing as the other corporations. Daring, originality and know-how excluded.

I have these ideas for remaking King Quest 8 :
- How about Graham as a leader of an expedition, asking for companions to join him ? 1 royal guard, 1 guide, and a magician maybe ?
- Can former ennemies help ? Like Mannanan.
- Does Valanice have her own family, or is she an orphan ?
- Does Graham have to worry about missing a heir or heiress ?
- Can Valanice and Graham have their own adventure ?
- How about giving a role just for Valanice ?

I just can't bear to consider Graham as "old" without Daventry. I'll update my message, but since I rediscovered Graham in KQ5 in the mines, he felt human and sincere in his behavior when he received a gift from the leprechaun. I had tears when I saw the scene. I think AGDI and IA explore very well the character. It is also in KQ5 that Graham discover he can use skills in magic.
-------------------

QFG5 : I liked the game. It was expected to be better than QGF4 of course, but again, it waited too long before being finally released. However, I'm not throwing away everything. First, the game respected the difference between puzzles of each character.

Moral or non-moral choices should be better exploited. For example, when you give a basket to the katta, you should have the choice between giving it back, or ask for a reward instead. When chasing the burglar, you should have the choice if want to kill him, leave him alone, ask for a bribe ( regular or only once ) or denounce him. To spice things, you could have the Paladin asking for a bribe, and the thief denounce the burglar... I'm a little short of ideas on that issue.

The thief, from QFG3 to QGF5, felt less criminal. QFG2 and QFG1 are a lot better, somehow. I still appreciate the aim of the thief becoming the local Chief of the Guild. Maybe he could "expand" and becoming Chief of another guild, thus becoming a leader of the clan, and might need to delegate. The Wizard could start his own traveling Guild and thrive for knowledge he hungers to discover. The fighter would become

For graphics, when I saw the character faces, I was all in all satisfied. However, Rakeesh felt tired or bored, while in QFG3, his face showed an expression of dignity, and many other qualities. I liked the face of Ferrari, he really looks like a mafioso, definitly the guy you can work with, but with a lot of caution. I also liked Fenris, the magician rat. Some of the other faces could used some improvement.

I don't have an idea about what the results would look like, but I'm enthusiastic :)
-------------------

And, I voted QF3, but since it's already in VGA, it will be mainly to cure bugs. The game was also translated, but it didn't always sounded right. I brings also another question : Will the final correcting patch have problems to work on translated version of the game ?
-------------------

From all the Sierra, I think the Christy Marx saga of the "Conquest of..." is the most inspiring about the consequence. The endgame depends ( if not before ). While doing nothing or let do something in some cases may be the wisest though difficult choice ( two persons have an argument, it may be necessary, and you shouldn't show up ), it may have cruel consequences. In conquest of camelot, Robin can let go one of the sheriff man, with the sadest consequences possible I dare not tell here. In Conquest of Camelot, the Grail can kill Arthur! I don't mind that much about the Grail killing Arthur ( it's even original ), I think the Grail should have let Arthur meditate on his gavest errors, or trying to forget them.

In fact Adventure/RPG should give as many choices as possible, so it gives responsability to the player : he'll get what he deserves. On this issue, AGDI did a lot : I remember Graham in King Quest 2 VGA remake about how he must react or what he thinks. I even tried all the options possible, especially when Daventry was in ruins, because I wanted to discover and understand the results of the talks and acts of Graham. You have quite a range of thought about the human nature, and you do a lot to explore its nuances. It really gives a lot of freedom of mind to play a game that doesn't force you to follow a track.

P.S : King Quest 3 Redux rocks :D

I know I'm late getting to this poll, but please please please, more King's Quest!! :)

KQ8 is the #1 choice for me. It's the only game in the King's Quest series I never played. King's Quest games shouldn't have combat -- it totally ruins the spirit of the series. My reaction upon seeing KQ8 and reading some reviews was a decided "Meh...thanks but no thanks."

KQ4 as well, because it was my "first" King's Quest and the first one with a female heroine. In my opinion it's one of the strongest of the original series, though it's got some absolutely infuriating elements (like that text parser...I'll never forget reading "Try another way to say that" for the FIFTIETH TIME or so!! I'm also not a big fan of "wrap-around" landscapes.) AGD does such an amazing job of these remakes...it's tantalizing to consider what they might add to this (already awesome) game. :D

I'm only about two years late on this, but I wish i could vote three times for the QFGV de-make. QFG is my favorite series, and I always felt that game left the series on an awkward note. And I didn't like how it failed to give you as many different approaches as, say, QFG2, where you could solve almost any problem in several different ways. And not enough Katrina time, you know.

But all of these would be fun to see. I voted also for Iceman and Gold Rush, because they're a nice change of pace and I think have been unfairly overlooked in the past by fans. But heck, any of these would be good.

Firstly, for those looking most forward to a King's Quest IV remake, I don't want to get your hopes up, but I can assure you that work is still being done on UnicornTales' KQIV 3D remake. Progress has been slow, due to the unfortunate and untimely passing of our artist - and my predecessor as project leader, but our new animator has been able to make some of the animations that the game was lacking before.

Anyway, what I personally would like to see most is an improved version of Quest for Glory V. Now I did very much enjoy QfGV, but there are unfortunately many things about it that need improvement.

(Incoming spoilers warning)

(angry rant mode, complete with a hint of language, warning as well)

Take the rite of freedom, for example. As a fighter or paladin, the rite of freedom is completely fine. As a wizard or thief though, it's broken. Any true QfG fan knows by now that a thief is meant to avoid detection and combat as much as possible, but this is impossible when doing the rite of freedom. Later on, when doing the rite of conquest, a thief is able to sneak up to the mercenaries and blackjack them. When trying this in the rite of freedom, however, the game tells you that it's not the time or place for a blackjack attack. Like Hell! It's the ideal time AND place for a blackjack attack! But what's even worse, is that when you get to the hut with the sigil that you need to retrieve, you're not able to lockpick the door. Your only options are to knock on the door or try to force it open. Seriously, what the Hell?! A thief is not supposed to be doing that! He's supposed to AVOID detection! Why can't he sneak in through a window or pick the lock on the door?

As a wizard, the four fishing villages that you aren't assigned to free are fine. But when you get to Naxos, however, you're actually meant to save the place without setting off an alarm. Excuse me?! Why is a WIZARD supposed to do that? That should be a THIEF's job!

And another problem with the thief's game, is the part when you steal the blackbird from Minos' mansion. Up until you get to his treasure room, everything is fine. But then you have to fight with two goon guards; whom you have no way of dealing with covertly. Granted, they're far from any alarms, but that's still not what a thief should be doing. And what's worse, disabling traps triggers an alarm, while setting off the traps doesn't. That makes no sense at all. It should be the other way around. You don't hear any alarms go off when disabling the trapped safe in the bank, after all. And you're meant to rob that place TWICE!

And another thing that bothers me is how relationships in the game work. You basically just talk to the girl a bunch, give her a few things, tell her you love her, and propose to her - without having ever even kissed her! What the shit is that?! Why are there not parts where you can take her out to dinner and... you know...?! Sure, it's not Leisure Suit Larry, but they could at least just let it be implied. Hell, Nawar makes it blindingly obvious that she has the hots for the hero. And don't give me this crap about "Oh, there's no time for our love right now, with that dragon and everything! We'll have to wait until you save the world!" Bullshit! If you feel the same way for me, you have time to give me at least ONE KISS before I go and save the world! Most couples usually kiss at least once, BEFORE they get married, you know.

There are also quite a bit of animation problems in the game as well. For example, when you meet with Ugarte at night and the assassin shows up and throws a dagger at him, you can clearly see and hear that the dagger does not hit Ugarte. It dings loudly off a nearby hill and then lands in the water with a very-audible splash. And I know I already spoke of what a gyp it is, that the woman you love refuses to even give you a single kiss until after the dragon dies, but when she FINALLY does, it just looks terrible as a paladin, fighter, or wizard. Your character just stands there with his arms at his side, while the woman goes up to him, and doesn't move a muscle while she embraces him. The thief, on the other hand, actually does return Nawar's embrace in the thief's guild. So why don't the other heroes?

There are other things I would improve on as well, but I'm tired now and that's all I had at the top of my head.

Speaking of the "clean" relationship where they just date a little and marry, it could be logical when looking at medieval traditions. Many noble people getting married had never seen each other before the day.

But yeah, there's a small bungle up with the alarm mechanic in the thief's missions, if you disable a trap, it means you're managing to overcome the alarm system, not to trigger it.

Has any progress been made on this? Is there anything that we can do to help? I would LOVE to play again! Either KQ or QFG.
