Eco Quest and Space Quest

I was wondering if it is legal that you guys from AGDI could open a kickstarter project to gather some money for your work to make a remake of space quest 3 for example? Many people would love to buy SQ3 remake version and many would probably pay for the fair work.
I played new king's quest chapter version series and also find it a great game and would be also nice that creators would use their new graphic enginge to make Eco Quest 3 for example, underwater world would be a top selling game these days. Sure, they could easily start kickstarter project, but I don't know how these things goes for old remake versions.
