Re: ??
The new template I translated was not zipped only the old icelandic template. The new template appear like a normal text in the e-mail. I just could not open the zipped file with the old template. Do you understand me now Erpy?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> I can now install the old template now and I will start working on that now and send it in next day when I have finish with that.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... >Fribbi at: 3/13/03 8:11:51 pm

Re: ??
Not quite, I'm afraid. To clarify: the "new template" is actually the old template with some modifications, improvements and a few new lines. This file, template.txt, must be completely filled in except for the lines I mentioned in my former mail. The zipped file contained both the old and new template. The old template already had your lines filled in, the new template hasn't. You can't do such a thing like "installing" the old template, because it's simply a txt-file.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashb ...

Re: ??
Ha ha ha. I am so dumb now you don't have to tell me that again. I know now what I e-mailed to you Erpy. It was just the instruction about what I should ignore and translate. But I am going to translate everything without ignoring things just in case if they are going to need that. I don't mind that. But I have to ask a question about one thing. When I was translating the disclaimer stuff (again) I noticed something I can not understand. It said I can not use the voicepack with the Icelandic pack. Does that mean I can not use the English voicepack with the Icelandic subtitles I am working on? Why not? It will be cooler to have the English voice with the Icelandic text. It will then looks like movie to me. I mean Iceland is not like the Spain or Italy or German TV. What I mean is this: We don't usually speak Icelandic for the English movies, we just add the Icelandic subtitles on that. But I admit we speak Icelandic the most children's movies like Harry Potter and cartoons but very seldom on movies. So is there any hope I can use the Icelandic subtitles I am working on with the English voice pack?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... >Fribbi at: 3/14/03 6:36:22 pm

Re: ??
No, I'm afraid you can't use the voicepack in combination with the translation pack.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashb ...

Re: ??
Yes, the voicepack deactivates with every translation pack that is used. We programmed it into the game that way. As it stands, we don't really feel like changing it. Changing big things at this point wouldn't be a good thing anyway, since the game is fairly stable right now without any obscure bugs.

So no, a combination of translation pack and voice pack will not be possible.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

And what will the others translators has to say about this scandal?
I mean will this happens to every foreign languages translators too Erpy? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

Re: ??
I wouldn't classify this as a scandal. It's simply a way the game has been set up. (and yes, voices will be disabled with every translation pack)

Please note that not all translators might be bothered by the lack of voices. There never were supposed to be voices in translated games. This way, there won't be any confusion about whether or not we have foreign voice packs available.

I don't see this as a big deal myself. English voices combined with foreign screen texts remain an odd mixture.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Re: ??
Sounds like it would be similar to watching a foreign movie. The spoken part would be in a different language, while the subtitles would be in the language you could understand...

I never really cared for watching movies this way though. I find it kind of confusing. Re: ??
Well, the thing is that the textboxes in translated games are hardly subtitles. Subtitles are fairly...subtle, but the text-boxes are really obvious. It wouldn't be an english game with foreign subtitles, but a foreign game with english voices in the background. That's the way I see it.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

Re: ??
I agree... maybe if sometime in the future, someone donates a million dollars to Tierra, they can have a translation voice pack for each translation... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

"Without the fleet, the contest would be on our home grounds, and war is one contest in which it is best to be on the visiting team." -ADM Nimitz

As for russian versions of games...
... it is quite common that games have english voices and russian text as subtitles. Moreover there are even english sentences in russian translations. And some voices (usually in smk's and avi's) are even not translated at all. Damn pirate verisons. But we get games as they are released via inet. Official translations are usually released after 3-6 month! :-(

Subtitiles are a pretty good way of learning another language, well some of it that is...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Re: Translators: Please Read
German people can't use the voice pack with the translation? I thought you easily write the number in the translated sentence in the translation file (for example: &12<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)"> and then it would work. Have you still got the original translation txt file? I would like to have a look at it.

Re: Translators: Please Read
There's no need to. We're aware of the fact that you could get voices to work if you put a &12 in front of a translated character's line. We preferred to keep it deactivated though. You can read about it in earlier pages of this thread.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashh ...

Really? I'm pretty sure that if the AGDs would start work on a foreign voice pack, they would have notified me about this. Re: Translators: Please Read
Let's assume that the ending scene takes 3 minutes in total. The music changes from a solemn tone, to slightly more upbeat when Graham shows the treasures and then a fanfare as soon as he is crowned. Now, let's assume that a foreign ending scene, due to the difference in length of the lines spoken, will take 3:15 minutes. The music will keep running as if the english voices are playing, so the enthusiastic fanfare may already start playing at the very moment the king drops dead. That's what I meant.

I'm afraid we simply prefer not to adjust the game to suit foreign voice packs. Nor are we interested in being involved in its creation. Why should you adjust the game to the foreign languages? I easily adjust the speech files by myself. I try to ,synchronize' the scenes where it is necessary.

But in one point you should try to help me: I noticed that some spoken things are in the exe file. They should all be in the voc file, so I have the chance to make a whole speech pack.
