Check your mailbox. I have just sent you a mail with the translation template and the instructions. Follow them carefully and if you have any questions at all, just post them here and we'll be happy to answer them.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/nashg ...

Wait for the next one. There's not much point in translating the readme of a previous version.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

Nope, not yet. We still have to re-write the new readme file for version3.0.

a translator page

#130 Post by FullJee » Sun Apr 21, 2002 9:06 pm

Why you don't make a page where the fan will be able do see who are the translator and in which language they translate (without show the progression). So they will be able to contact the translator to ask to him if he want some help and it will be better because if I write a sentence only in the same way, maybe a another guy will write the same sentence but in a different and better way.

I don't recall having heard of a Norwegian volunteer yet, so consider your offer accepted. Please check your mail. I have just sent you the translation template and the instructions.

Also, Fulljee, I was actually considering something like that too. A little while back, another dutch person volunteered for a translation and I sent him my script so he could check it.

I'll see if I get the chance to create another stationary topic for this.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

The reason the pages haven't been sent is because I'm still working on them. I slowed down a little after I learned that KQ1VGA 3.0 would take a little while to be completed. It's only a few days since I finished my final days at school (well, final until the holidays are over that is) and I had more urgent matters to attend to at that time.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

KQ1VGA 3.0 will support Truetype fonts. That means we should be able to import such a font into the game and Presto!

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/nashg ...

There are some that look decent at 320x200, you just have to really hunt for them.

Looks like you haven't read my mail just yet. I answered your questions in a mail I sent to you and explained in the same mail that I removed the thread because the answers were given to you in that mail and it was merely taking up space in the folder. My mail should be in your inbox right now. Please take a look at it.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

Translator's beta

#144 Post by DasJan » Sun Sep 08, 2002 11:16 pm

I just wanted to ask if there is any news about the translator's beta of King's Quest 1 VGA 3.0. I'd really like to test the translation ingame.
Das Jan

---
www.dasjan.de | www.adventure-treff.de

At some point after KQ2VGA is released, I'll focus on getting KQ1VGA3.0 out and testing the translations with it. I might also go through the game and fix up some areas, which in retrospect, I can see could have been scripted more efficiently (ie. the witch swooping).

Sorry it's taking so long. It shouldn't take too much more time though.

One other thing with translations is that the graphically intensive HTML manuals might make them too large for us to host. This is why I originally wanted to only use text files for the manuals, because then we could host all translations on the tierra site and not have problems with other people's servers going down or people removing the files etc.

However, at a couple of MBs for each game manual, this will make it impossible for us to host all the translated versions of the game on this site.

What do you guys think? Should the translated versions come with only a TEXT manual, and then people can obtain the graphic manual from someplace/someone else? Or do you still think the entire translated (HTML) manual should be bundled with the language packs?

I'd certainly vote for a .tra-file bundled with a manual and readme in txt-format. People are downloading the language packs mainly for the game itself. Adding multiple MB's of documentation to it is not something everyone will be asking for.

The main problem with the manuals is that everything, including the text parts themselves, is in graphic format. That takes up a lot of unnecessary space. (even though it looks cool) Another disadvantage I ran into was the fact that certain parts of the text take up more space when translated and in the worst case (I bumped into that too) an extra page has to be added and all pages following the to-be-expanded part have to be renumbered.

An alternative option would either be a manual where only the background and little pictures/banners are JPEG's, while the text remains part of the HTML-file, or a document that's converted to PDF.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashb ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... py>Erpy at: 9/9/02 10:04:07 am

About hosting big files: Yesterday I heard that our host gamesmania.de finally allows us at www.adventure-treff.de to host downloads. I don't know anything about traffic limit or size limit, but this probably means that we can host the translation and the (graphical) manual ourselves, and maybe the other languages, too (and maybe even KQ2+...). But I can't promise anything now.

I would say: Let the translators decide whether they want to make a graphical manual (which actually means a neat amount of extra work) or not, especially if they have the webspace themselves.
Das Jan

---
www.dasjan.de | www.adventure-treff.de

When using a tra-file, AGS simply looks at what it's supposed to replace a certain part of text with and does an almost litteral copy-past trick. So tra-files with such characters should work fine.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/nashg ...

Portuguese translation

#150 Post by LamB » Wed Dec 04, 2002 6:05 pm

I wouldn't also mind making or helping the progress of the portuguese translation, since i have much free time on my hands and i've already helped translating a couple of books. Of course i must give the priority to the other portuguese translator, but still i would love to help Tierra somewhere, somehow, If not only trasnlating the manual.

Cheers, and by the way, congratulations on KQ2+, it's wonderful. keep up the good work, above all. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Lamb

Oh, and my email if you need it: waddah@sapo.pt
