Polish translation

#151 Post by foresterr » Thu Dec 05, 2002 6:47 am

As far as I can see, there is no Polish translation being done - well, I would be willing to do it. Just hope this is the right place to write about it. If my e-mail is going to be needed, it's foresterr@tlen.pl

Spanish... well actually Castellano.

#153 Post by Druss » Thu Dec 05, 2002 7:59 pm

I can offer to translate the game and manual into Spanish, but not the Spanish from Spain, Spanish {aka; Castellano} from South America. South American's tend to make fun of Spain's Spanish.

Bulgarian translation is almost like russian - it uses an additional AGS font and a several lines of script in the game_start function, so I guess it won't be a problem to translate it...Right?

Yes, there's already a volunteer working on the translation. I have your email adress written down in case he decides to quit the job.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

I seriously doubt we will. Translation packs are small files that fit on a 720 KB floppy. Voicepacks are bigger. Granted, size became less of an issue ever since AGS supported the ogg-format for speech, but it'd still be a pain for us to record and store the whole thing. Not only that, but there's a smaller audience for each translated version, so it's not really worth it. Thanks for the offer though.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashh ...

I thought as much... but I just couldn't have lived with myself had I not offered. I mean, the guilt, the terror, the feeling of evasion... it would have made my sleep a nightmare. I would have developed a nervous tic next to one eye. A stranger with a fat wife would have thought I was winking at him. The wife would have hit me with her handbag after the husband tried to flirt with me. I would have accidentally thrown them both down a drainpipe. I would have run down a crowded street, stolen an old beat-up car and gone careering down the highway... and a criminal career would have begun...

Now I'm safe from that. <wicked smile>

Hast thou couragious fire to thaw the ice of frozen North discoveries? and thrise Colder than Salamanders, like divine Children in th'oven ...

I am aware of the Bazilian/portugal-difference. A while back, a volunteer to help the translator started his own translation into Brazilian portugese.

So I'm afraid the job is already taken.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

There are a couple of things to work out with the font right now. The current TTF used is quite ugly. There's a better font out there, but it doesn't have characters like á, ô or ï yet.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

A new feature of AGS allows the game to display the font in a better way. And yes, I still have the translations. Right now, a lot of hard work is being done on getting the bugs out of the game. We thought it was nearly flawless already. And then two people pop up and prove you wrong...

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashc ...

Erpy I got your new template but I have a question about this.
Shall I translate all of this in the template or just leave them where they are where I shall ignored them? And the last question, where can I get Lucas art style font in the Internet? What other font character may I use?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to ask, Fribbi.

In my mail, I mentioned which lines could be ignored. You can simply skip these. All the other lines should be filled in. Of course, 90% of the text is already in your old template, so you can copy-paste existing lines from the old template into the new one.

As for LA-fonts, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. It doesn't have anything to do with the template, right?

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Wait a second. You said you couldn't open the zip-file, but at the same time you said you also translated those pieces you could ignore. How could you reach the new template-file if you couldn't get inside the zip-file?

I guess I'll resend it...

EDIT: I sent the template.txt and your old translation file to your email account. Just copy/paste the old lines into the empty spaces of the new template.txt, check if they're correct and fill in any new lines of which I didn't tell you to ignore them.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashq ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... ms>Erpy at: 3/13/03 7:17:59 pm
