Hey, I'm new to this site, but not to kings quest games. If there is a need for any game to be translated into Spanish, I'd be glad to get to it. I'll keep looking at the message boards, but e-mail me at goncsuwolfpack@aol.com or goncsuwolfpack@hotmail.com if you can't get a hold of me.

We never release a game that's compiled with a beta version of AGS. It's not unlikely version 3.0 will be out as soon as a non-beta version of AGS is completed.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

What about QFG2VGA?

This question has probably been answered somewhere already, but I'm asking it here anyway: will QFG2VGA be translated? If so, I could help translate it into Dutch. I don't know if there's anyone around who's able to do so already, but I have loads of time; I can do it fast!

If not, is there anything else that I can do to help you guys? Languages

Hold your horses for a sec. Think! What are you talking about? Translating from English into another language without using that languages full alphabeth? That certainly would be a most violent rape of the language! Dear people, TRY to understand that even if some (and I mean some) people in this world do speak and use English, most of the world still use other languages. And even if you try and believe the whole world should speak English (one day?), and that we should have only one culture (North American), the fact is that there still are and will be other cultures and languages. And charcaters in alphabeths ...
You made an incredible work with the rebirth of the greatest games ever, don't mess this up now ... stay in one language English (as adventures games have been), or - if you must - translate them but the it as well as the games them selves. Use ÄÅÖÜ and many more. Generally you could say that almost very European country except the English speaking ones, has "special" charcters. From Finland in the north to Turkay in the South, and from Island in the west to Russia in the East!

Skrivfel

Stav- och skrivfelen berodde inte på dålig engelska utan på att jag inte klickade "preview" och därmed aldrig korrekturläste texten. Ifall någon undrar ...

Characters

by CrazyPoster
I'm refering to first post in this topic by Anonymous Game Creator 2:

"... AGS can not currently support any special symbols for different laguages (such as ä and ç). So please, can you also state in your post if it's possible to FULLY translate the game without the use of any language specific symbols in your language."

Symbols

by CrazyPoster
I also want to make clear there are no substitute for "special symbols". You CANNOT substitute eg. "Ö" with "OE", even if some anglosaxian companies has been doing this before (airlines and credit card companies are one group, but they realized their misstake so nowdays they use just "O" mostly).

It is a noble idea to translate computer programs into local languages, but there are problems of which the special symbols might not be the biggest one! That's why I think its ok to use English in every situation in the industry.

* as a (former) programmer I know one big problem is that some languages have mush longer words that others (Finnish is one good example), and there might be a problem fitting those long sentences into a program that was designed for much shorter texts (English). Occasionaly you run into big troubles with this, like the text on push buttons and others.

I agree sort of. But your reference to AGD2's initial post is no longer valid, because AGS supports TTF fonts now and special characters can be used now.

You're right about the buttons. In fact, the GUI's still don't support special characters. (because the larger TTF font wouldn't always fit) In-game text is perfectly translatable, but it'll never be 100% localized.

Regarding the use of english, I personally agree, but then again, most people in the Netherlands prefer the original english versions over translated/dubbed ones. But not every adventure game player knows english, especially in countries where every game/movie is specifically dubbed/translated before it's published there.

<img src="http://members.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nas ...
