Check your mail. I forgot to mention it, but in addition to posting on this forum you can also drop me a mail if you have any questions. (just don't do that during the recruitment for beta testers)

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashw ...

I'd say, keep the copyright line as it is. I didn't know the official translation for that line either. Still, it's something that certainly SHOULD be included. Most people will know what it means and it's better to leave it as a whole untranslated, rather than creating a translation that might not cover all the info.

About KQ1VGA by Tierra in 2001, leave it too. Version 3.0 might be released in 2002, KQ1VGA itself was released in 2001.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/nashg ...

The swedish translation will be completed soon! phew! Only about 30 lines left and then I´ll play the game again and make some corrections and spellcheck.

If someone on these boards know swedish and like to read my translation please post in this thread.

About the options menu:
I´ve had some troubles in finding good translations for some of the words (restore and restart for example) If I understand right the word can't be much longer than restore or the text won't fit in the button. That makes it harder.
I may be forced not to translate them at all, but instead explaine the words in the help screen.

There might be some good words that I haven't figured out yet. Maybe if Hyperion (Norwegian) and TTJ (Danish) could say what words they will use I could get some inspiration.

/mason

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/uthesniggering ... age=EN>the sniggering mason at: 8/13/02 10:34:37 am

I had that problem too. If the word is only slightly too big, put it in small letters instead of capitals. It really helps.

Otherwise, you might be able to abbreviate the words. Be sure to remain consistent though. Don't make SAVE all capitals and RESTART (usually the nasty little twerp) an abbreviation in small letters.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

I can help, but I don't think that I want to translate the game it self, but I can help in translating the manual, or other things.

Right now, I have another volunteer working on the translation. I'm eager to find out how far he gets with it.

Das Jan mentioned the manual templates in the second post of this thread. If you click on the link, you'll be able to get the blank pages that can be used to create foreign manuals. Make sure to have the original English manual in order to get some of the pictures.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashh ...

I know you've already got a Danish translator, but in case he quits, I hereby volunteer. Contact me at mickeym@go.to or michaelmadsen@iname.com. It doesn't matter, the first is just a redirect, but it may arrive faster through the second e-mail.
Pidgeot
-----
Every error you find is the last one.

I'm pretty sure that KQ2+ is untranslatable. There are many reasons against translating it: Massive amounts of text, poems, graphical language (but I'm not sure about that), puns... IMHO this game is meant to be played in English. A translation would only harm it.
Das Jan

---
www.dasjan.de - www.adventure-treff.de

Graphical language isn't necessarily a problem as all "inscriptions" are followed by a normal message repeating what's written.

Other than that, Das Jan pretty much sums it up.

It's not exactly the amount of lines and dialogue that put me off, it's the way it's written. Poetry, wordplays, puns; it's all in there. As I said before, translating a game is rewriting it in your own language. Rewriting KQ2VGA's script takes more writing skill than I possess. Unless you're a professional writer, a translation won't do the game justice and will only ruin its well-written script.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Hey, Alex Lowes, it isnt correct that nobody else here speaks hebrew. I do, and It'd be great playing the game again, this time in Hebrew <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> ..but some word - games wont go well in Hebrew like: "You push the bush", it wont go well in hebrew, it would be something like: "Ata dochef et hasiach" - not like the orginial, but hey, it is never like the original when you translate...I'm eager to try the game in Hebrew <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
