okayokayokayokayokayokayokayokayokay...I think I'm starting to get this. Posting screenshots meant as a joke (light jab at best) slows down your progress on the game development? What, are they de-motivational to you or something? Do you not have pride in your work or what you've done? What's the story here?

Seriously, this really shouldn't affect you. I mean, it's your board and it's your rules and if you want to play Hitler be my guest, but it seems to me that if nothing is being harmed then nothing should be deleted.

Tetragrammaton...the name of the facist police force in Equilibrium. Interesting irony, don't you think?

*wonders why every time we post screenshots the threads end up like this?*

Okay, so for the Arabian style borders around the dialogue pictures, just wondering what kind of design people had in mind for this?

Well...

How about trying the outside border here... colour it brown (brick-like)

Something like this then

Hey, that's cool Gronagor, a nice find and great coloring. But I always worry with things like that not to let them be too ornate, to go for a simpler style. Of course, Arabian designs are fancy, but I would try something not as fancy just to see what the difference is. Anyone else out there have some ideas? This is your big chance, AGD2 is listening to you!

AGD2, I don't have a problem with the borders which you've used. In fact I agree with you that it's good to keep consistency and you can't keep consistency with QFG1 cause they didn't use borders in that game. So do what you're doing, it's all good.

As for the other topic here, what people are talking about is a completely different matter. It's the principle that other people, myself included, have said some pretty ordinary things on these boards and never been warned for them, let alone banned. So why does LucasFan get banned? I read his posts, they didn't seem bad to me, let alone be worthy of a months banning. I believe that there is a double standard used here.

Uhmmm...

Klitos: Read the posts, man. AGD2 said he deleted the posts, and LFan himself said he posted original Sierra art. (Ok, I saw some of the posts... and I agree with AGD2)

AGD2 deleted the post and pleaded with him, after which LFan repeatedly reposted the same stuff.

Geez... can't you guys read?

And lastly, YOU are the one that went off topic. AGD2 asked for suggestions here....

Maybe you should make the borders skinnier on both sides.
And fix the shading on the rocks. Other than that, its great. :)

LF posted the same shots on our site, and AGD2 offered a long explanation. LF just has a sense of humour about all of this...... and sometimes it hurts when you're teased a bit. But, geez, AGDI shouldn't be worried about LF's teasing; they have a huge fan base, huge respect, and a few Sierra Screenshots won't change that..... the fact remains that they HAVE made enjoyable games that most of us really love..... and that won't change because of a few rogue picture posts. OBVIOUSLY they self-perpetuate LF's intent by deleting it and making a big deal of it. Just letting it, and him, be may really be the best way to deal with it. Do you really think a couple of screenshots from KQ5 are gonna sway opinions? I hope not! I don't care if the graphics are collaged; the game is gonna rule anyway!!!!

This is a stupid mess.....

Anyway, stick with the QFGIII borders. I like to consitancy between games, and I think too much "ornate" stuff detracts from the pics, WHICH are handrawn, and very nice. It's obvious a lot of work goes into these games, no matter how it's done.

Consistency?

If you want consistency go play KQ. There was huge differences between the GUI from QfG 1, 3 and 4!!! You just talked about freedom of speech, now you want us to stop making suggestions?

If a small kid does something wrong, he gets a warning. If that kid does it again, he gets another warning. If again, the only way to fix it is a good spanking. The whole point is they've warned him repeatedly and he made a joke out of it.

Obviously AGDI wants to prevent Sierra (or whoever owns the rights nowadays) from closing down THIS site. This site has been paid for, and it isn't worth it to take extra chances. Because of this they created RULES. I know you guys at QFI doesn't understand rules, but usually when you break a rule you get 'spanked'.

Gronagor, I was just giving my opinion. I actually dig your border, man. No dig towards you, bro. I wasn't implying y'all should stop suggesting! I was just offering mine. Sorry if you read that wrong. :eek :D

He was frustrated. You would be too.

Hey Gronagor, don't try to slyly insult us. It's crude. Who we are and what we at IA do isn't subject to review by someone who doesn't know us, and most likely gets second hand information from Duarh. If Sierra wanted to close this site, they'd have done so by now. It's been years, and ALL involved with the old games KNOW about this site. That excuse doesn't hold. And if they do want to close it......so what? It's the internet, and there's plenty of rebellion on the internet. As professional as this all seems, it IS remaking intellectual property.....and no amount of professionalism is going to make angry lawyers any nicer when THEY spank YOU for breaking RULES.

I don't have issues here with you, or even AGDI for that matter. Let's not start anything stupid, man. I know you feel the need to defend them, but I'm not attacking them. I musing on a situation, that's all.

No indeed, but if that's the thanks you get for devoting your time like AGDI does..... it can be very demotivating I can imagine.

But if you let the one asshole upset you, you invalidate ALL the OTHER LOVE they get! For one LF taunt, there's a thousand honest praises and loves....... I'm sorry. Be secure.

Unless LF is the mysterious AGD member who bolted, I don't know how this one guy could upset this all.

BTW, meant to say this, the Ad Avis sprite looks wicked. I took a closer look at him..... REAL nice.

Please discontinue the discussion of LucasFan and/or banning in this thread.

Another thread has been created that seems devoted to this subject. Please post all related discussion here:
http://www.agdiforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8032

Any further posts that do not deal with the QFG2VGA screenshots or GUI's will be deleted.

Thanks.

*Zoof*

I think the borders should be in some kind of Arabian style. When I think of Arabia I think of an attraction called "Fata Morgana" in a famous themepark here in Holland. The colours they use for door-posts and domes are dark red, turqoise and all. See for yourself:

Image

Hmmmz doesn't reflect the greatness of this particular attraction :lol
This does but is too big for the on the forum:

EDIT: uhowhuh only the greatness of the OUTSIDE of it...it's actually a darkride.

Hey, that border looks great, Gron!

Yeah, the problem seems to be that it's hard to get something Arabian to also look good/consistant with the other GUIs in the game. Arabian motifs usually tend to be brightly colored with a lot of patterns. It's difficult to create something good like that in low-res. We do have some borders already made up, but I think they'd probably need more embellishments added to them if they were to become the official dialogue borders of the game.

Reducing the width of the border a little would be a good idea, as it would also allow us to fit more text in horizontally. Thanks for the ideas. ;)

I think that a geometric border inspired by the patterns and vibrant colours commonly found in Islamic art might look nice even at lo-res. Maybe the side borders could be worked to resemble Moorish keystone arches or vaults?

I don't understand AGD2. Why are you so concerned about consistency?

OK things like the hero sprite and the katta should be consistent but most things (borders included) shouldn't have to be consistent.
Look at the borders of QFG1 and 3 and 4. No border consistencies there because they were all completely different settings. The borders were all designed to match up with the current setting.
QFG2 is a completely different setting to QFG3 so no consistency required at all! If you want any consistency at all, at least make it consistent with the current setting of the current game and not other games! I don't think the current borders work with the Shapeir Arabian setting which is a problem.
I think you should try replacing the plain light brown background for the text box with something like what you used for the text boxes in KQ2VGA. And try brightening up the pillars to look more yellow like the shapeir setting. Basic suggestions I know compared to the abov posts but....
Who knows. Might work

Look man, I just said the QFG3 borders looked incosistent with the look and feel of the game. In my eyes, the QFG3 borders are unworthy of the awesome artwork they get to frame. I wasn't accusing you of bad taste nor was I nitpicking your work. I was just providing some constructive criticism. Take it as nothing more or nothing less. Geez...

It's nice, but the cold colors don't fit a desert region like Shapeir very well.
