<cough cough>Fan-made speech pack for QFG2VGA using a bloody good filesize-efficient encoding<cough cough> :p

Just out of curiousity, any idea on the total number of spoken lines within the game?

Most good adventure games have over 4000 spoken lines. So QFG2 would be somewhere near that.

I'd argue QFG games have more since you have three seperate plot-lines you have to deal with.

Oh dear at thread starter's name... :eek

Either way I don't mind, alot of people are thinking because KQ2 was told at the beginning there would be no voicepack. Then a couple of months later, an April Fool's Day alerts us that there is a speech pack.

I have an incling that there will be. I'm still wondering how KurtD lent his voice to KQ2. I wouldn't want to do a voice though, although I can do good accents and impressions in real life, on the microphone they just sound awful. If you should ask anyone to do voices get Blackthorne, he can do a great voice. Isn't that right BT?

But how often do you really need a drunken Irish voice in an adventure game, Broomie?

Hey, I maybe Irish but I can put on great accents for other countries, they just sound awful on the computer. :|

Edit: Oh you meant Blackthorne. Gotcha!

Anonymous Game Creator 2 wrote:That said though, there won't be any speech pack for QFG2VGA. KQ1VGA and KQ2VGA were fairly far removed from the later KQ games where players already knew how the characters sound. We were lucky to get Josh Mandel and Richard Aronson to reprise the voices of Graham and Cedric. Aside from the reasons already mentioned, it somehow wouldn't seem 'right' adding voices to QFG2VGA. I think it just seems strange to put voices in part 2, when neither part 1 nor part 3 had them. QFG4 is a bit different because that was released in the days when a rerelease of a Sierra game with voices was a huge thing. And by the time of QFG5's release, all commercial games had voices. I'm normally a BIG fan of voices in Sierra games, but in this case it wouldn't seem right. I think it would be near impossible to give such well-known characters voices that they deserve ... to do justice to them. In this case it's better if we just continue to imagine what they sound like. That way everyone stays happy.
I can totally understand where you're coming from, AGD2, and I tend to agree.

I would, however, still like to see a voice pack *provided* that the voice actors used for various parts sounded similar enough to the original voice actors (for those characters which appear in QG4 and QG5, like Ad Avis, Erasmus and Rakeesh). This is more of a pipe dream than anything else, because I don't see this as a likelihood. But nothing wrong with dreaming. (:

Heh if all fan game makers remade kq3 and released it at the same time it would be a race on which copy of the game gets downloaded the most times and which one would be the most popular.

I asked.

As always, I'm an advocate of creating a voice pack for the game, and I'm also an advocate of having another team get it together for you guys. This team would handle casting, direction, production, editing, filtering, and compiling the voices for AGDI to script. It wouldn't slow down AGDI at all as they would be unencumbered with the decision-making process that comes from voice pack creation. The only thing they would have to do would be to script it into the game, which is relatively easy considering that all the prior work is done for them. This could go the same for any of the other games, like QFI or something.

However, one concern with QFG2 that no one's mentioned: The naming of the hero. There are times in QFG1 and QFG2 especially where characters use the name that you type in for the hero. To get around that, there would have to be two versions of the game so that the voice pack can be fully supported. I'm not so sure voices could work for QFG2, though much desired they would be.

Still, this doesn't hinder AGDI from adding voices to their future games, like CONQUESTS OF CAMELOT!!!!! or KQ3 or anything else, original or otherwise.

Oh, and PS:
AGDs, if you DO happen to do another voice pack...please don't judge my performance and deadline commitment based on my performance in KQ2VGA. That was a bad time and it was a VERY bad turn for me as an actor and I'm almost begging for a second chance to make it up to you. :o

I'm not so sure that would be a huge problem... there have been other games (Baldur's gate off the top of my head, but there are probably better examples) where voice acting was used, despite the player-defined name appearing in dialog... the spoken dialog just didn't always match exactly the text (ie, they took out the name). There's even QfG precedent for having voice dialog different from text, in the inn in QfG IV, although obviously QfG 2 wouldn't require such drastic differences.
Having said that, I'm not at all arguing in favour of a voice pack, or contesting the agdi's right to rule it out, I'm just aimlessly rebutting an argument for the sake of it.

Kurt you should lend more voices to games since you did a great job with King Edward, I was very surprised when I saw your name pop in at the credits. Anyway, if QFI needs voice acting, we'll definetly consider you. :D

I'd be willing to volunteer, too. A few friends have said I should try out something like this considering I'm good at changing and manipulating my voice.

His name is mentioned in KQ2VGA's credits. I believe he was a voice actor we got through a voice acting forum.

He did a great job, one thing which I think you should have done though, at the end where he turns into that big dark figure, with his eyes glowing and doing that curse, they should have made his voice more darker and drowzy type. I don't know how to describe it but the voice style is used in Lord of the Rings when Frodo is talking to the... oracle? I don't know a deal about Lord of the Rings so correct me if I'm wrong but her voices goes deep and scary while shouting at Frodo. If they used that type of voice with the father it'd work wonders. AGD2 mentioned he had a special voice program, he used it to make underwater talking I believe.

She becomes scary cause Frodo offers her the ring, and she imagines herself what she would be like if she would say yes. She resists the temptation and returns back to her lil old self (cause she is the greatest among Elves next to FeƤnor :D)
