Who is this Tierra Entertainment???

#1 Post by Fribbi » Tue Jul 06, 2004 10:53 pm

Greetings AGDI team.

I was just checking for new full size games there in AGSforum to download and your two games were there as usual but suddenly I saw something you should mention to the Chris Jones or maybe you can do it on your own way.

You two games KQ1VGA and KQ2VGA is still there but why have you not changed the teamname. It is still said it is from "Tierra Entertainment". Tierra Entertainment who is that, you know???

I just wanted to let you know about this so you can change this wrong teamnametitle "Tierra Entertainment" to "AGD Interactive" or people, first time users, would ask when are more games coming from Tierra Entertainment who has never visit us here before.

Remember that the games themselves also say they're by "Tierra Entertainment", so unless AGDI decide to do a special release just to change the name in the introduction, changing the team information in AGSForums may just cause more confusion than it solves

It's impossible to enforce the name change everywhere on the net. We're looking into the possibility to release new versions with an altered intro, but at this moment, there's no time to create a new intro or redistribute the games.

But they'll eventually be a new intro for AGDI in QFG2VGA correct?

Besides, the games were created by Tierra Entertainment. Just because that company exists in a different form now doesn't change that fact.

Then isn't it just a matter of inserting it into Kq1 and kq2 and recompiling... so perhaps we'd see new versions of those sometime after qfg2vga is released?

More or less, yeah. Although the new intro isn't finished yet.

Unfortunately, recompiling a game with a new version of AGS sometimes produces odd sideeffects, like the cutscenes in Kq2vga running out of sync with the music.

Being a professional programmer, I can certainly sympathesise with the whole "weird errors after upgrading to a new version" - I have *so* been there. Anyway, I agree with anathoth8 - the earlier games were created when you were Tierra, and as long as the most popular websites update their links to your new website, there shouldn't that much confusion over the name. :\

I honestly think Tierra was better. Why did you change?

I think the reason was that Tierra Entertainment took a big step forward with the release of King's Quest II VGA, and they wanted to more accurately reflect the nature of the new era with a name/site change.

Personally, I think it was more because they were tired of being asked, "Tierra sounds like Sierra, so are you only remaking Sierra games? What about LucasArts games? A LucasArts remake would be nice. MAKE LUCASARTS GAMES, DAMN YOU!" :)

One important reason was indeed that the name was a tad too similar to Sierra.

I do agree Tierra was better to AGDI, it was just the criticism it recieved like Infamous Mecha Sonic explained.

But the criticism is silly... And the logo was so cool... So symbolic... Bring Tierra back! :cry

Seriously, acronyms remind me the modern evil companies like VUG and other evil things not related to gaming.
