QFG2 Remake, Eh? Sounds AMAZING.

#1 Post by KaokanDBZ » Tue Jul 13, 2004 11:07 pm

I'm.. like... 260% new to this site. I was browsing an adventure game site looking for info on QFG4, when I noticed a listing for a "QFG2 Remake" and I flipped out, because qfg2 is one of my all time favorite games. So anyway, I just saw the site, and I think what you guys are doing is outstanding. Honestly! But how did you manage to get past the ever watchful eye of Sierra? Last I heard, they were verrrrrrrrrry protecticve of their franchises, especially the ones they didn't make games for any more.

Well, they've been making remakes for three years, and no watchdog problems yet - and Sierra is now dead, and I don't think VU is really interested in their old catalog. Lucasarts, however, is more protective of their franchises. Anyway, welcome to the site.

Hah! Even at Hero6 we realized AGD2 (a long time ago) was a Sierra representative! You can't fool us! This is some kind of sinister plan by VU to.......... I don't know what, but I'll go along for the ride. :p

Edit: Welcome KaokanDBZ.

I remember back in '97 I was reading a Sierra magazine about QFG5 and the Coles were saying if Qfg5 sold well they would consider a remake of QfG2. I wondered if Dragon Fire didn't sell much, and that was the reason no remake was made, but I remember Sierra's Yosemite branch closed.

I've also caught myself wondering what the remake would have been like juxtaposed with the AGDI version.

Dragonfire sold the most of all the sierra games released around that time, if I recall correctly, but it wasn't enough to cover the costs.

Well, considering Sierra pushing the Coles to finish the game and to get the heck out of there, I doubt the number of sales would have had any influence on whether they would have remade QfG2.

The Coles and the new management didn't seem to get along.

This is the most exciting time ever.

You guys would not believe how excited I am, I check the AGDI website at least once a week. I just could not stop playing the King's Quest remakes, and can't wait for QFG2. Do you guys seriously still hope to release it this year, if not I'll be patient - I promise :D

I love Sierra and all the quest games they released. Lucasarts are a close second though. I'm so glad you guys are reworking the alleys in QFG2, that was definately the most annoying part of the game, and allowing the charactor to rest in Rasier - good one.

Hello Jontas. :)

Strange how people complain about the alleys!? That wasn't as bad as people say!

I never really minded them, but never went to locations "manually" if I didn't have to. They do a nice job in making the city look like the large community it is.

I believe the Coles were among those people who thought the alleyway system was a bit too much in retrospect.

Silly Coles. :p j/k

Yeah... it made the city feel huge! Only thing they could have done was add a few more interesting places in the alleys, but I kinda liked it. :)

Yeah, I guess I agree with that. Thanks for the welcome Gronagor. BTW I'm from South Africa too, but I live in the USA now.

Hey Jontas, thanks for the words of encouragment! At this stage, it looks like the game will probably be finished before the end of 2004, but the alpha and beta testing phases are going to be an absolute biatch! They will most likely take a while as the game will require several 'passes' with a new bunch of beta testers each time.

From past experience we've discovered that when using the same beta testers for the entire process, they tend to get bored of the game after playing it for the 100th time, and their efficiency tends to dwindle a bit towards the end. So passing it over to a fresh bunch of testers will help prevent that and keep the bug-finding pace up. The good thing about this, is that we'll probably need to get quadruple the number of beta testers that we signed on for KQ2VGA!

Effectively reducing the amount of people who get to play the game in its bugfree glory to near zero. At least we don't get any story testers this time.
