QFG save format?

#1 Post by duckwizard » Tue Jul 04, 2006 6:56 am

I'm trying to import a character from QFG2 into QFG3 and the game thinks he's a wizard (rather than a thief).

I know that I can manipulate the character class with the first 6 bytes of the exported character.  But there is some kind of hash checking or something that prevents me from messing with the file.

I'm asking here, because if you guys are reimplementing QFG2 you must know the format of the exported character files!  So what tips can you give me on making my character show up as a thief rather than a wizard?

Here is the exported file:

Al Capone
535353c7f83a47ff73f24d4dc1 95e366ee583f34ebac199a3b9a0aa9e85c1dfebfdf0f1f2f7f4f4546aa6d9f6667fdc

(The only carriage return is after the character's name, any other breaks were introduced by the browser).

Doesn't the game allow you to choose the character class?

I remember QFG3 always asked if your character class was correct when importing and then gave you the chance of changing it (I always changed it when my wizard became paladin, to continue as a wizard to the end).

It never asked me.... Hum.

Maybe I need to find and install all the patches and whatnot?  I'll give that a shot.

Thanks!

Yeah, I installed some patch I found on the internets and now it asks me which class the character is.

Stupid, stupid - should have tried that first.

Thanks for the reply!
