I'm thinking of buying a old quest for glory collection cd. What i want to know is if these run fine on a new computer, windows vista and such..

Probably with DOSBox.  Otherwise, they may not run very well (QG1EGA and QG2 might be fine, but the others, not so much).

Bigfan is spot on about QG1EGA and QG2, I have played them both recently using DosBox and they have the fewest problems.

QG3 and QG4 (even more so) require a lot of patching, trial-and-error, and patience.

This page will prove invaluable: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Ar ... tm#Patches

Be sure to patch all games before starting. You may have to do some tweaking or download other things to get some proper sound working - I know I can't play the games without the music.

After patching and playing in DosBox, QG3 only gave me crap with its random savanna crashes. Save early, save often, DON'T save after you've killed a monster, if you can help it. I've noticed the most problems in those situations, and on many different computers/operating systems.

If you have never played QG4, I cannot emphasize how highly I recommend the voice version, but turn the text on because there are certain crucial bits in the game where the character's lines are silent or from the wrong part of the game. It would be confusing.

Good luck!

thanks, but, what is dosbox?
I can't get the "demos" to work from that link you gave, does this mean that even those first games wont work?
There seems to be alot of pages that you can download dosbox from, should they all be considered "safe"?

Try http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

It emulates a DOS environment, like an old computer.

Vivendi Universal the company which owns the rights to the Quest For Glory games. I have QFG1, the QFG1 Remake, QFG2, and QFG3, all working quite happily with DosBox.

i get the two first demos on that site to work, and my old game of crusader no remorse, but the 4th qfg demo doesn't play.
Any rumors on if the qfg series will be released again?
Nm, now the 4th demo works too.

I wonder why they didn't release the Qfg compilation last year. Could it be because simply releasing the games with dosbox would be insufficient?

Sierra's other "Quest" games are more along the lines of pure adventure games.  A lot of them are really good; you should give them a try.  :D
