Looking for a good Endian converter

#1 Post by Boogeyman » Fri Dec 21, 2007 3:41 am

This is so I can convert my QFGV saved games from Mac(Big Endian), to PC(Little Endian).

It's not quite that simple. Endianness merely describes which byte goes first, but without knowledge of the "field sizes" used, it's not possible to flip them around (you can't tell 2 2-byte fields apart from a 4-byte field, or even 4 single bytes - so you don't know how to change it).

Have you tried using them as-is? There's a (small) chance they used an endian-neutral format (assuming the format is similar in the first place).

They don't.
Why would I be asking this if they did?

Here are some saves at the beginning of the Mac and Windows versions:

I've made it a habit to make sure users have tried the most obvious ways first. You'd be surprised at some of the things I've experienced without doing this.

I took a quick look, and if these two are saved in similar situations (scene, character stats and name, etc.), then it doesn't seem to be enough to just ensure endianess - there seems to be way too many differences for that to be the case. It might be necessary to reverse-engineer the format to get anything transferred.
