NO ONE is going to help you without system details.

QFG5 is known to refuse to run on windows2000/XP. The demo, probably being similar in format, would probably crash too. There's a patch for the full version to remedy that issue. There probably isn't one for the demo.

Same thing. QFG5 uses apparantly uses memory in a way NT-based systems (like 2000, XP and Vista) won't allow anymore, hence the crash. You might want to try compatibility-mode.

By right-clicking on a program's exe-file and selecting properties, you can select a tab called compatability mode and try running it as if it's a windows 95/98 program. It might make a difference.

Running it as win95 made it work, thanks.
Is the demo only a fort with a couple of enemies?

Yep. The item you'd need to get out of there isn't in the demo. The game itself is more adventure-like than the content in the demo itself.

I don't recall needing anything to get out of Silmaria. The demo simply wouldn't let you go out either gate, or use the teleporter.

He's talking about the demo that features the rite of conquest.

I only played the demo which had Silmaria.
Anway I have the full game running in XP using the XP patch and Hardware Acceleration turned off. However, the sound is heavily stuttered, and neither turning off Sound Acceleration, changing the sound card to virtual Roland, or turning on compatibility mode fixed it.

Seems like i downloaded two diffirent qfg5 demos. In the other you are in a town, with friendly villagers and hostile guards and alot of locked doors.

Reinstall the demo and during it cancel the third party quicktime player installation if asked. Download latest version Quicktime player and install it. The game should work fine. This game might work OK on XP and Vista but you will need the win2k patch to play on windows 2000 pro.

Don't know what I did, but the sound seems to be working fine now. However, I encountered some nasty problems near the end of the game.
First off, it would crash if I tried to view a movie(such as the Dragon waking up), though rapid clickling would bypass it.
Second, a runtime error would often occur during the Dragon battle.
Will I have to run QFG5 in Virtual PC?
I do have the XP patch, BTW.
