CRT Monitor Dead

Last week my very old CRT monitor (the brightness settings of which were failing considerably already when I got it) finally died. The screen went all green with white lines going across it like a really old computer monitor. I checked the monitor menu to see if it was maybe just a display setting with my video card (it had also been flashing purple and blue and then normal again beforehand), but no such luck.

Here are some pictures. I use dual displays so I have two monitors. One of which is still good.

Good Monitor

Both Monitors Together

Both Closeup

So luckily a guy who works where my wife works had an old LCD monitor he was willing to sell for not bad a price. So we jumped at it. It's only a 15" (compared to the other two 17"'s I had) and it's max resolution is 1024x768 (which is also it's native resolution), but it's a heck of a lot brighter than the old monitor. In fact it's brighter than my other CRT monitor as well!

New LCD

New LCD with Second CRT

So slim and light! (Which helps loads seeing as that desk is falling apart, as you can plainly see from that second picture)

There are some issues with refresh-rate based programs like some video players. The video ends up playing very glitchy. And games that use Vsync obviously won't work so I'd have to disable that. But I still have the other CRT for those things anyway.

Just thought I'd share these bit of happenings...
