popping the antwerp in qfg1

#1 Post by techie775 » Wed Mar 19, 2008 4:01 pm

I saw this video on Google and I couldn't believe it. I've had Hero's Quest for 18 years and I never knew you could pop the antwerp.

I tried it afterwards and it works.
the trick so you don't have to multiple times is before you go to the next screen put the game on the lowest speed. Then type "use sword" as soon as you're in the middle of the screen. Don't know if it works on the VGA Version...

No you don't; you just have to be ready.  Remember, as long as the parser window is open, time is frozen in the game.  As to the VGA version, yes, it still works.  And I can't believe you never found this out.  It's a classic element in QfG lore; Dr. Cranium references it in QfG4 with his baby Antwerps.

Well the first thing I thought of when saw it split into 5 antwerps was "hey that's like QFG4 Antwerps... And no I never knew cause I always took it as a joke where you die cause fighting an antwerp with a sword looks ridiculous.
If you pop the antwerp what happens if you trip the switch in the brigand hideout out? Or is that another Antwerp there? I could never tell...

There's a second Antwerp in the brigand's fortress.  If you trip the wire, you still die.

I never knew that you could do that. I just tried it.  16yrs later and I just found out that you could pop the Antwerp. Still not as bad as my Battletech: Crescent Hawks Inception, 5 yrs after i had the game always look for a mechanic, and its like, "did you turn left into the building?" :o

I didn't know about this either for the longest time... I only found out online when I was either looking through a list of how to get full points (if you got points for popping it) or else a list of easter eggs. I'd gotten stomped by it before, but had never thought on my own to use my sword.
