Stijn had mentioned this to me, and I just wanted to personally send my congratulations. This is most awesome news indeed. I hope we can all come out and visit you and the little one sometime!!!! And of course, indoctrinate it in the ways of game development and initiate it as well. What will the name be, btw--Honorary AGD 3.5? :D

I KNEW IT! All these kids being born to board members - there must a subliminal message underlying the forum transmission for all couples to have children that will then be indoctrinated into the cult of AGDI! LOOK AWAY, I TELL YOU! THEY SHALL TAKE YOUR SOULS!

:p

Well, a lot has happened since I last posted in this thread.

We found out that the baby is a girl. Yay for little girls! This will be my third. :)

The baby's name will be Ashlen Dawn. We've got her room all set up and ready to move into.

She's progressing really well. In fact, she last measured to be 2 weeks further along than what she really is.

The bad news is that my wife was put in the hospital on Friday. I've spent the last four nights at the hospital with her. The doctor said she has developed preeclampsia. This is a potentially fatal condition for both her and the baby, but luckily they caught it early and with her being in the hospital, she should be fine. The doctor wants her to carry the baby to at least 37 weeks. She will be 35 weeks tomorrow. This means another two weeks of bed rest at the hospital. She's not a happy camper right now.

That's not good. My prayers are with you and your family. No doubt all things will work out fine, though.

And ANOTHER girl? Lol you poor soul you're so outnumbered.

This is what happens when you watch too much House - you know what preeclampsia is without clicking the link.

You're right, Navy - since it wasn't early-onset, they caught it quickly, and the doctors can monitor her 24/7 at the hospital, she and your daughter should both be fine. Going to 37 weeks should maximize the risk/reward spectrum for both of them as well. Give everyone the entire community's best regards.

Very lucky to have had it caught so early. I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll be with Ashlyn before you know it.

It's been a hectic weekend. Ashlen Dawn Nichols was born at 8:52 pm on Friday, April 3rd. She was born five weeks premature, but came out waying a wopping 7 pounds and 11.3 ounces. Due to complications with my wife's preeclampsia, Ashlen was born via C-Section. Ashlen was taken to the Neonatal Intinsive Care Unit and was put on a ventillator due to her premature lungs. My wife had to remain in the labor and delivery wing due to the operation and the drugs they were giving her.

Amber wasn't allowed out of her bed for 24 hours. That day was terrible for her, as she wanted to see the baby so badly, but couldn't. It was rough on me as well. I was running back and forth between my wife's room and my daughter's room. Thankfully, the NICU has a camera they can set up in the baby's room so that my wife could watch her on TV. That made it a bit easier. My wife was allowed to get into a wheel chair last night and met her baby for the first time when she was just over a day old. At that time, Ashlen was on the ventilator, so my wife couldn't hold her. She could only just reach her little hand from her wheel chair. It was both a heartbreaking and happy moment.

Ashlen was taken off the ventilator this morning, so when my wife and I made it back to the NICU, we were able to hold her. She is doing much better, and has even started bottle feeding.

Amber should be discharged from the hospital either tomorrow or the next day. We were told to expect Ashlen staying in the hospital until what would of been her due date. That is another five weeks away. We were unofficially told that should could be out in about a week.

Both mother and baby are doing really well. Both were brave and I couldn't be more proud.

I have a bunch of pictures. I'll get them online as soon as I can.

Congratulations, Sean. I'm very happy that things went well especially with the complications that arose. I'm sure things will work out fine and this rather rough start will become smoother when Ashlen gets home. :)

I agree with MI, btw. Being the sole male in a household with four females...oy! :p

this is really terrific news Sean, as I was reading through I was getting confused as my fiance's name is also Amber :lol It must have been very touching to see your wife meet your youngest daughter for the first time. Heck I was touched just reading about it.
