You could also try using these timer patches. I never tried them myself, but they should be able to help.

It's a well-known glitch in QFG3. You definitely need the patches to get past that one reliably.

Try this, then click on "download fix" under Quest for Glory 3, to download the zip file. The link was trying to go directly to the zip file which would explain why it didn't work.
