Quest for Glory IV Hex Editing?

Is it as impossible as people say?
I have the worst luck with bugs on this playthrough of the series.
It turns out there is this intermittent bug where sometimes, if you do not see the domovoi on day 4, you are screwed forever.
And I have no save games that early.
Would anyone know if I can hex edit the doll into my inventory, or if there is a patch, or any other way around this short of starting the entire game from the beginning?

I think there's a patch that fixes that, but that it makes useless your previous savegames. But I'm not sure where you could find it.

Editing constantly changing elements like your stats can be tricky, but doable. One-shot items like the doll are virtually impossible to track since they change in position from game to game (sometimes even from save to save).
