Question about IMVU

I was on another forum and saw IMVU advertised and was wondering if anyone here has heard of it and if it's computer safe? I use to use Zwinky on one of my old computers and the computer started running slow. So my friend looked at it and got mad at me and said it was because of Zwinky and that anything made by Smiley Central was bad for the computer. So is IMVU made by Smiley Central and if not is it safe for the computer and will it upload spyware and viruses and stuff.
