Off-topic forum rules and etiquette

The "come one, come all"-thread was starting to get filled up and with the recent flood of spammers, I have some things to add.

Okay, in the off-topic forum, you can talk about whatever you like within certain limits:

Like in the other forums:
- No copy protection codes
- No warez/abandonwares links
- No links to porn/offensive sites

While this forum basically encourages free discussion, I'd like to ask everyone here to keep the talk tasteful and try to avoid controversial topics which are certain to end up in heated arguments.

Also, try to remain slightly on-topic in threads unless the original creator of the thread indicates that he considers the original subject a finished business.

One more thing, I'd like to adress is advertising/spamming.

These forums are here for MEMBERS to discuss OT-subjects. A member is a person who visits here regularly or occasionally. A member is NOT someone who comes here, posts a link of some sort in his first post and then gets out of here never to come back. We don't uphold this community so others can tap into our fanbase for free publicity. Someone on another board said about posts like those:

no introduction
no interest in the forum
no real value

Very well spoken, I say. I couldn't agree more with it.
If you're a regular visitor on these forums and you wish to share some information about your interests (which may include your site) and it fits the topic of the discussion, I'll be willing to overlook it. But blatant ads will be deleted on sight from now on, since they really clutter up the forums. To make things more clear about things like Outwar, Kings of Chaos and all those other online RPG's:

"It is not allowed to post recruitment links for games like Kings of Chaos, Outwar, Master of Medieval Times, Everwars or any other online RPG where players increase their army/character's strength by posting their profile-links on the internet unless personal permission from one of the board administrators is given! In this case, we'll post in that thread and tell the poster it's okay. In 99% of all cases, those recruitment-links are considered spam."

If there are any further questions, I'll answer them, but only questions in this thread please.

It is very annoying and we shouldn't have to put up with it. But everyone knows that an unregistered visitor who posts a link will involve something I like to call "Spam" and members of the community should know that and just leave it. So we just have to ignore the post and wait for a moderator or admin to remove it immediately.

I have a question, erpsta'. I'm sure everyone's noticed my sponge factory logo at the bottom of every one of my posts. Does this count as unnecessary advertisement? I can remove if it seems like advertisement or annoying. <br><br> <p><!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www.nancycarterdesign.com/spongefactory" target="top"><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://www.nancycarterdesign.com/sponge ... /title.gif" style="border:0;"/><!--EZCODE IMAGE END--></a><!--EZCODE LINK END--></p><i></i>

Umm, no. That link is part of your signature and you're a member, not a one-time visitor, so it's okay. In your case, it's pretty clear that you post to add something to a discussion, rather than to get people to visit your site.<br><br><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ... <!--EZCODE IMAGE END--> <p></p><i></i>

Yeah, you just have to keep it in context. People who are here and have been here for a while post links that they think others might be interested in. I, personally, have no problem with this, because many times there will be those who are interested. On the other hand, there are the people who post only to draw attention to themselves or to their site. That bothers me. <p><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://anathoth8.netfirms.com/sword.gif" style="border:0;"/><!--EZCODE IMAGE END--><br>Don't go out the same way you did the last time <br>You'll break when you fall<br>Don't make the same mistakes you did all over <br>You've got to believe in yourself this time<br></p><i></i>

I think you should delete any more spam we get. It's annoying and cluttering <p><!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www.nancycarterdesign.com/spongefactory" target="top"><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://www.nancycarterdesign.com/sponge ... /title.gif" style="border:0;"/><!--EZCODE IMAGE END--></a><!--EZCODE LINK END--></p><i></i>

Oki <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START ;) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> , just thought that a reply was not requested. Nice name, though. <br><br>Erpy - here's what I think: This thread is about rules, and there is nothing to argue about them - they are there to stay forever, so I don't see any reason why not locking this thread up, after deleting the irrelevant posts that are already here.<br> <p><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://navynuke.netfirms.com/ezboard/vildern.jpg" style="border:0;"/><!--EZCODE IMAGE END--></p><i></i>

I agree with the rules. I got one question are we aloud to post abandonware links?

Posted: Sun May 02, 2004 11:31 pm
by Erpy
No, I'm afraid not. Both requests and links (requested or unrequested) are disallowed here.

So can we PM the person who wants it?

We request that you don't. Distribution of such links using our forums is strictly against the rules.

You know what this forum really needs? An ignore user function.

Actually I think what it really needs is a "Give user a chill pill" option.

It already has one, it's called personal self-control.

O wait now I remember

Erpy you seem pretty high up as far as this site goes do you think oyu could reccomend an early start to a QFG2VGA board? I'm sure many of us would use it look at all the QFG stuff that ended up in here please give us a home

It's been asked a few times, but we don't want to start a QFG2VGA forum until there's a QFG2VGA to discuss. QFG2EGA-related stuff can be discussed in this particular forum.

QFG Fan, you found the least suitable thread to suggest it :lol

"...Rules"

Edit: Wait.... I wonder if this thread has a purpose...

The purpose of this thread is to explain the Off-topic rules. You know, No abandonware, no warez, no Outwar links.

Well, use common sense. How much do you think is too much?
