It's a trick question. Since both answers are about *metiarlistic* and *good looks* stuff, not one deals with the person himself. These are stuff that help you get stuff. Money helps you get all, and looks help you to be accepted more easily in society. They don't speak about the nature of man, feelings and such. Like, what would you prefer, being happy and poor or rich and miserable.

I really don't know what I'd prefer in this case. I wouldn't worry about the money, cause as long as I'm a happy person, I don't care that much how much I posses. But about looks... well, I wouldn't want to look like a dead frog... hmm.

"A) A nice 'what D&D character are you' test in the bottom of this page: http://irulethe.net/~neppyman/dndwho

B) Ivanova: "You're a vicious man."
Garibaldi: "I'm Head of Security. If I had to answer this question for a future partner, I'd say she would be good looking and poor.

There are sunsets over other oceans my friend. Yeah, I don't think I could ever really marry an ugly person, no matter how loaded they are. If I'm not attracted to them, I won't be happy. That's why I'd rather be attractive and poor, because at least I can feel good about who I am in that aspect. Having lots of money is usually a compensation for not being good enough without it. I'd definitely choose looks over money.

And Vil, what you say is true, but what you answer is a deep insight into what kind of person you are if you look at it correctly. It shows what you value more out of the two "selfish" wants. So, in fact, your answer will say who you are inside. And the word is "materialistic."
-----------------------
CrisS
Newsletter and Plot Writer
Kings Quest IX: Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining

So I said Johnny whatcha doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said, how bout a revolution?
And he said right.

I say of, you say a.
I say revolution, and you say jah.

Be a Hero.

When I first met my boyfriend I really didn't like his looks at all (sorry ) in fact I was totally not attracted to him one little bit. But I stayed with him and we hit it off totally, he made me laugh and smile all the time and we did loads of things together and then one day I found myself falling in love with him, not his looks at all but him himself. Then once that happened I started to like his looks after that, I don't know what changed but I just started to think he was more attractive. So in my case looks didn't draw me to him at all it was his personality and who he was, the way he made me smile even if I was down that initially drew me to him.

"I'm an angel, honest! Speaking from a male point of view (well, mine anyway...) I look at looks first. I know that's not everything, but I don't want to wake up next to someone in the future and not be able to stand their looks. Maybe I'm shallow, I don't know.

There are sunsets over other oceans my friend. Well, I can't argue that looks can either draw attract or repel someone initially. After all, it is the first impression that you get from a person. But eventually, that becomes much less important than personality.

As far as not being happy with someone's looks, even after getting to know them, I would have to agree with Vamp. I believe that when you are truly in love with a person, you get a positive feeling from seeing that person that has nothing to do with the way he/she looks. You love to be with them and look at them because of the way they make you feel inside. Call me a hopeless romantic, but that's just the way I think.

Seeing that most adventure players are happy to state that plot is irrelevant over pretty graphics, I'd say you're not the only one.

Quote:
Seeing that most adventure players are happy to state that plot is irrelevant over pretty graphics, I'd say you're not the only one.

Don't you have that backwards, Erpy? Or am I just reading it wrong. I think that you wanted to say that the pretty graphics are not as important as the plot. It works the same way. You look at a screenshot and say "Oh, that looks pretty." But, if you play the game and there is no substance to it, you're not going to enjoy it for very long.

This is, of course, an oversimplification, but I think it can be applied. If and when you find somebody that you truly love, you can't help being attracted to them in every way. Even their little imperfections just make you love them even more.

There is a country song that I have heard on the radio by Brad Paisley, in which he tells about his wife. In the first verse, he remembers the first time he heard her say a dirty word and how embarrassed she was. It was after she backed into something in his truck. He says that he couldn't even pretend to be mad because she "looked just so darn cute." The chorus wraps up with the line "I live for little moments like that."

Man, this whole two-thread-same-topic thing's weird, I have to re-hash everything I just wrote.

Like I said previously, looks factor in a lot in relationships, in the beginning at the very least. Like you said, Vamp, when you first met your boy-toy, you categorized him as non-dating material. However, after you spent some time together, his points rose dramatically and now you're all cutesy luvvy-duvvy and such. So, by your own admittance, looks factored into the equation in your case. You didn't like him at first based on looks, but once you got to the creamy filling of his personality, you started to like him more, even liking the looks.

Either way, back to the original topic, statistics show that physically attractive people are on average happier in their lives than people who are unattractive. So, I still stand by my answer. I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love...but if looks could kill, well...
-----------------------
CrisS

Well I moved back to Austin to try to make a living
But it ain't been so easy with those hill country women
And i'm stuck inside of this 8x12 room
And my throat's a scratchin' from the cigarettes and booze...

Be a Hero.

Quote:
statistics show that physically attractive people are on average happier in their lives than people who are unattractive

I think the statistic is that people who think themselves attractive are happier than those who think themselves unattractive. I am not really what society might call an attractive man, but I am content with the way that I look.

I'm with you on the whole two threads thing. I have read the other thread, but I have chosen not to comment on it; instead, I have chosen to do all my commenting here. I will likely soon stop responding here as well, unless someone asks me something specifically, simply because this thread is about everybody's opinions on this subject. Obviously, we all have different beliefs, and while it has been interesting to see everyone's views, continually restating my own opinion is not likely to have an effect on another's, at least not any more than it already has.

Looks and personality are both important, but I stand by my assertion that personality is far more important. I myself am just starting a relationship with a girl, and the more I get to know her, the more attractive she is to me, physically and emotionally. I can only hope that she feels the same way about me.

It's just my opinion, but I hate to see people reducing a relationship to who wakes up with whom. Loving somebody is about far more than just that.

Edited by: anathoth8 at: 1/31/04 8:44 pm

I think that sums it up Anathoth, that was really nice. The more you get to know someone the more attractive they are to you, so what I was saying is don't turn a women or man down just because you don't like there looks first off, instead getto know the person they are, then you will find out what you could have missed.

"I'm an angel, honest! Yes, we've seen pictures of Vamp and we know she could be considered physically attractive to most (don't mean to put you on the spot here, Vamp, so I do apologise, but you seem to have inadvertently become the centre of this issue so I may as well go with it ), but what I mean by that was that Angelus, and Vamp too for that matter, is lucky enough to have found someone he cares for both on a physical and emotional level and can look forward to going to sleep every night and waking up every morning knowing he can count on that person being there for him, so I would imagine that having that is much more important to him than anything someone on a message forum, or even real life, could say about him. I know that would be true in my case, and hopefully it is in his case as well. That level of connection would be much more important to me and I would hold it in much higher regard than anything else. I'd wager that's what most people who venture into the relationship scene are seeking, and so to find it in the end is praiseworthy indeed.

Quote:
I myself am just starting a relationship with a girl, and the more I get to know her, the more attractive she is to me, physically and emotionally.

Best of luck with that, anathoth, and you'll have to let us know how that goes!

~Wolfgang
