Yes, I'm Dyslexic. Sometimes it comes across, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I notice the mistake, sometimes I dont (and occasionally, I'll intentionally leave it there in case someone actually notices). If you're not Dyslexic, then you don't know what it's like, so don't try to pretend you know. You think it's EASY being dyslexic? Sure, I could use spell check, but since I sometimes MAJORLY screw up words, that doesn't help much.

At least I TRY to spell correctly. l33t speech doesn't "try". l33t speech (to me) is lazy and immature (and, IMO, a lame attempt at "coolness"), Dyslexia is a mental disability. There's a HUGE difference. You Can CHOOSE not to speak l33t. I CANNOT "choose" not to be Dyslexic.

And be happy I'm only minorly Dyslexic. I'd hate to think of what you'd say if I was wrose.

And to Quote Myself:

Quote:
Anything else, I consider corny, immature, and stupid. Speak english.

Did we miss the magic words, "I CONDSIDER" in that sentence? That means, Gasp, that comment was MY OPINION. I didn't say it WAS stupid (in the general sense), I said I THINK it's stupid. Am I not allowed to have an opinion of my own on something?

And as sor the Speak English part...how would you all like it if I suddenly typed a message in Swahili? I bet you'd think it's ride, sicne none of you speak that. Well, a lot of people here I bet don't speak l33t, so from that same perspective, to a degree, it is sort of rude (i know it wasn't intended that way, but still).

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... riFreak at: 3/3/04 5:57 pm

I agree. Writing in other languages is rude. So Soulblighter is being rude, since he uses Finnish in his sigs all too often. Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. This however is NOT dislexsia.

There are many forms such as:-

Global aphasia which is the worst by far
Broca's aphasia which is when speech output is severly damaged

There are disorders that may accompany or be confused with aphasia such as Dislexsia which can accompany any one of these impairing both writing and speech but the one that impairs the writing bit is Globel Aphasia not the actuall dislexsia.

The term Dislexsic refers to a person who is "constructively and verbally impaired" in the sense thatthey find it hard to understand a verbal saying. However can express freely and easily through writing. Did you know that J Rowling was dislexsic? not anymore as she learnt to deal with it using various techniques however she said once in an interview that her best writing came when she was dislexic as thats the only way she could get her thoughts across and understand them and others.

The problem with dislexia is that it effects both sides of the brain so that the words spoken are mixed up and back to front for the person who is hearing them and the brain can't make sense however the left side of the brain which in many people (unless left handed) controls the reading and writing isn't effected by this.

Dislexia in a small minority can in a way effect some of the writing, yes, as it does make words that are spoken mixed up and back to front and some dislexic people even read from right to left instead by mistake so I guess that can effect the way they wright down words. They see things like "now" as "won" etc. But generally dislexic people can communicate very well with writing, not so much reading but better than speach itself.

"I'm an angel, honest! I'm really sorry for you Vamp, but you are wrong. Like you said, Broca and Wernicke areas have everything to do with speech, and practically every speech disorder comes from those areas.

But if we are going around throwing brainterms into the sky, then I'd like to state that dyslexia is mostly coming from temporoparietal regions of the dominant hemisphere, extensive damage to the dominant hemisphere, disconnection between the angular gyrus of the domninant hemisphere and the visual input system, and the speech areas DO NOT HAVE TO BE DIRECTLY INVOLVED.

Let me explain to you different types of dyslexia:

Visual word form dyslexia: impaired sight reading, but some decoding is possible.

Phonological dyslexia: deficits in reading pseudo and nonwords.

Surface dyslexia: tendency to produce regularisation errors in the reading of irregular words.

Deep dyslexia: semantic substitutions, impaired reading of abstract words, inability to read non-words

Developmental dyslexia: impaired reading and spelling of words, non-words, pseudowords, poor phonological processing skills, sequencing and short-term memory, and some visuoperceptualdefects.

Dyslexia is a psychological concept that refers to readingdisorders. Here you saw it: it's all about the process of reading. If you still are not convinced, I refer to the works of (from where I summarized the information above):

Shawitz 1998, Flynn and Rahbar 1994, Critchley 1973, Speedie et al 1982, Coltheart et al 1980, Grigorenko et al 1997, Fried et al 1981, Brunswick 1998, Temple and Marshall 1983, Bakker 1992, Stahl and Murray, 1994, Lieberman et al 1982, Hulme en Roodenrys 1995, Stein 1991, Stein and Walsh 1997, Dautrich 1993, Eden et al 1994 & 1996, Galaburda et al 1985, Rae et al 1998, Geschwind & Behan 1984, Bryden et al 1994, Cohen and Breslin 1984, Brunswick & Rippon 1994.

(yeah I'm currently researching dyslexia for my study)

Like I said I know it effects (in some) reading as people read things backwards etc and mix words up all I am saying like you haven't pointed out yet in your post, is that people with all them you have listed (well practically) can still communicate through writing (in most cases anyway)

One of my original points was that I really don't think at all the Takari has dislexia, maybe a little with speech, but her writing mistakes (which she then went onto blaming dislexia for) as she pointed out to me in one of her emails to me was because she wanted attention and to see if anyone noticed or got on there nerves, as well as she couldn't be too bothered and was too busy to check over for mistakes (nothing about dislexia) which is why I went onto say basically "stop covering up you wanting abit of attention etc and blamming it on something as bad as Dislexia as there was no mention of that in the email she sent me. All of it just saying she wanted to see if someone noticed.

So it sort of got me angry that she would bring up something (that if she has I'm sure the mildness of it would not effect her writing to the extent of what it is now) just to cover up what she really told me. As I am sure you will agree it is the worse cases that bring up the spelling etc not the mildness of what Takari said.

"I'm an angel, honest!
