AGD1 at E3
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it's sad what the big companies said to AGD(or C)1. Can somebody please explain to me AGAIN how King's Quest died exactly?? I remember KQ5 & 6 selling well, and I just recovered an old Dutch magazine where KQ7 dominates the charts. KQ8 didn't sell well, but it doesn't take a gamingcompany to see that that game was no longer point & click adventure.

I read the article AGD1 wrote about her adventures at E3 this year. I have a question.
I think you must, otherwise handing out flyers advertising "illegal" games at E3 wouldn't be the brightest move I've ever seen.
Do you know that E3 is funded and run every year by the ESA? The same people who shut down sites for Warez, Roms,. Emulators and anything else which breaks the copyrights of their clients (VU and Lucas being two big ones)?
Do you have an "understanding" with Sierra (VU or whatever) about not shutting AGDI down? After the conference ended, I stood outside with my friend, and we handed out Relight's flyers advertising AGD Interactive to people leaving the event. Many people seemed enthusiastic upon reading them, and two people even fought over my last flyer.

Well no offense Erpy, but that still sounds a bit ... stupid ... to me. (I'm sorry I can't think of a better word than stupid.)
If AGDI doesn't have an agreement with Sierra about these remakes, then advertising them at E3 doesn't seem like a great idea.

Sorry Jafar, but if Sierra hasn't approved them, then it's illegal. It's the same as remaking an old Bugs Bunny cartoon without Warner Brothers persmission, or Steamboat Willie without Disney's permission. To quote from the ESA website. They arn't illegal. Just sort of legal...
Isn't it OK to copy games that are no longer distributed in the stores or commercially exploited?
No, the current availability of a game in stores is irrelevant to its copyright status. Unlike trademarks, copyrights are not considered abandoned if they are no longer enforced. Copyrights do not enter the public domain just because they are no longer commercially exploited or widely available. Therefore, the copyrights of games are valid even if the games are not found on store shelves, and copying or distributing those games is a copyright infringement.
Erpy wrote:My guess would be that AGD1 remained a bit unofficial about this and didn't present her flyers to Sierra's reps, but simply to visitors.
No, it sounds like... hmm... the disclaimer of a warez-site!Klitos wrote:Well no offense Erpy, but that still sounds a bit ... stupid ... to me.
But I must say I love their promotion project. I think it's pretty cool and very clever. I just faxed 2 copies of the flyer to Sierra and ESA. I hope it helps!

I've said this before; good intentions, bad idea. With the 'iffy' nature of what is done here, and by others, if the wrong person saw that.......Gronagor wrote:She did say she handed them out to people LEAVING E3. So, there was no chance Sierra's people would have seen the flyers.
And unless she took along a few boxes I doubt that more than 250 people received the flyers.
Believe me, if any company thought you might be stealing two dimes from them, they'd spend $100,000 dollars on Lawyers just to make an assinine point.
Heart in the right place; just a bad idear.

No. On the contrary, it was a very good idea going to E3 and distributing flyers.
If i were in their position, i would buy tomatoes, enter the E3, would throw tomatoes to new sierra people booing their choices regarding the gaming section, and would start distributing inside E3 Cds with KQ1VGA and KQ2VGA to the visitors starting crying that it is better to play FREE adventures of old school than paying to buy the new crap that Sierra Vivendi sells!
