Recent Films
I've seen a bunch of movies recently.
I saw Alien vs. Predator this weekend. Special Effects feast, but mind-numbing. It was entertaining, but far from the art that was Ridley Scott's "Alien". If anybody calls John McTiernan's "Predator" art, I think we need to hang them by their toes and tickle their ears with feathers.
I also saw the Manchurian Candidate. The most exciting thing about this movie for me was the credits. My friend, Dan Zola, was a Production Assistant on this film; he was assiting Mr. Denzel Washington. Dan was his "bitch" so to say. Anyway, interesting plot, slow moving. Not as good as other efforts by Jonathan Demme.
Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. Funny. Irreverant. Non-Politcally Correct. I loved it. Saw it twice. This one will be a big cult hit on DVD

SIX DOLLARS? That's matinee prices. Actually, Matinee prices here are now $6.50.Steffi Evenstar wrote:...damn theatre raising their prices from 5 to 6 dollars ... i should beat them up.
Regular price $8.75
And the industry WONDERS why piracy runs rampant and box-office filsm have no life beyond a few weeks.......

PS I saw the Village. Wait for the DVD. It's not bad, but not worth it either. Except for Bryce Howard. I really liked her in the film. Great acting. Plus she's Ritchie Cunningham's daughter and The Fonzie's god-daughter.

I watched Orange County last night. Damn that has to be one of the funniest films I've seen in ages. Jack Black is hilarious. I was also forced to watch the piece of shit film, "The Entity" My cousin was really scared and I was wondering how this could story could be based on real events.
I'm going to see Spiderman 2 for the 4th time tomorrow with my girlfriend. She hasn't seen it yet and I kinda said I've seen it 3 times and don't mind going again.

I don't know maybe everyone is smarter than me or something because when I watched The Village I was totally blown away by the twist. My uncle said he found out the twist 10 minutes before. For me it was his best twist ever. The movie is a little lower than his others but it's still above others and not dissapointing for me.

The movie The Bourne Supremacy had absolutely nothing, zero, nada, zilch to do with the novel The Bourne Supremacy by Robert Ludlum. The novel was an excellent novel, as was the novel The Bourne Identity. The novel starts out with Jason Bourne's wife's being kidnapped and taken to Hong Kong, and Bourne has to travel to Hong Kong to rescue her. The movie starts out with
his wife's being killed.
Furthermore, the movie starts out in Goa, after which the action shifts to Europe. None of those places are visited in the novel.
The movie The Bourne Identity was, at least, rather loosely based on the novel, although there were many gratuitous changes. But The Bourne Supremacy had nothing in common with the novel except for the names of a couple of the characters.
I wonder how they're going to handle the third member of the trilogy, The Bourne Ultimatum. The novel starts out with Bourne sending his wife and kids to a fenced-in estate in the Bahamas to keep them safe from kidnapping while he engages in further adventure. I don't know how they will make that fit in with the plot developments in The Bourne Supremacy movie.

Bourne:
Simple. His wife didn't really die.
I haven't read the books though. Didn't even know about the books. Guess I should read them. Saw the movies in the wrong order too.
Village. I'm going to word this so I don't need to use a spoiler tag.
The twist was cool. It wasn't a huge "oh my god" twist, it was more of a "oh yes, that's good" twist. At first I thought, I really wish it could have waited until the part where Ivy is looking down (you know what part I mean), and then unravel it. But then I thought, if you do that, you lose the bit in between where you think, well, which version is real? Also, maybe you would stunt the flow of the movie if you waited. I'm sure that choice will be talked about on an eventual DVD.
Then the ending has its own little explanation, which was just... odd. (Oh, and unlike many others, I wasn't bothered with Night's little thing about having a bit part in each of his movies). Overall, I really enjoyed it. Regardless of what you think of the twist, it's still a brilliantly crafted movie (dialogue, humour, camera work, etc) and very emotionally satisfying if you let yourself go when watching it. I can't decide if I like Signs or this one better. I guess it's a tie until movie #5 comes out!

The Village reminded me a lot of an Outer Limits or Twilight Zone episode, but it was still pretty decent. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering why M. Night Shyma...Shamal...Smith always has bit parts in his movies is because Alfred Hitchcock did that with all of his movies and M. Night loves Hitchcock.
Harold and Kumar was an amazing piece of film. It took everything that makes those types of movies great and exploited them to the power of 15. It was awesome. My favorite part: Neil Patrick Harris. Absolutely hilarious. I wish I lived up North just so I could get White Castle. I'm going at the end of the month, do or die...
Alien vs. Predator was a pretty decent movie when the Aliens and Predators actually show up and start kicking ass. The first 30-45 minutes, however, kind of run like the beginning of a Godzilla movie. "I'm a scientist." "I'm another scientist" "Hey, I have kids." "This is dangerous and unsafe." "I'm not going because things aren't going the way I want them to." "Hey, guess what country I'm from!" "Did I mention I have kids? Three of them. Jimmy, Jane, and Bobby. Wanna see their pictures again?" My girlfriend passed out after 5 minutes and woke up just in time for the first Alien to appear and do in a Predator. In essence, she didn't miss crap.
