I'm sort of amazed
I managed to get my KQ7 CD game to run on win xp without too much trouble. SHOCK. It wouldn't work before.

the windows version. I had to yank 2 files from the CD, run it in 256 color 640x480 win 95 compatibility mode, then run it from the start menu shortcut for some reason. I hate xp too, but it's what I got.Peter Swinkels wrote:I am wandering did you get the MS-DOS or Windows version of KQ7 to work, dungeonsofdorks?
Oh, and if any one is interested (not likely ), I don't like XP very much either. I use Windows 2000 instead, it has much less unnecessary rubbish added for one thing.

This might be slightly off topic but maybe some one knows this:
I was playing Kings Quest 7 for MS-DOS on my 500mhz Pentium III, unlike most of Sierra's SCI games it had very little to no speed related problems . There was one speed related problem, one that didn't bother me on my previous computer: the firecracker you have to pick up goes off almost right after you pick it up! Is there any patch for this?
dungeonsofdorks, do you have this problem with the firecracker too?

all of mine are being kind of gay in one way or another. QFG4 gives the oddest problem. I will start it up and as the creepy music plays and the shadow of the title or a bat or something is right about at the fighters head on the character selection it crashes everytime. The other games just don't save properly since i put them back on my computer from a cd i burnt when i reformatted. MY QFG5 playdisk is scratched and one resource file is corupted so the whole game doesn't work so im QFG-less and i have been for awhile. That's why i hope to be a beta tester for 2VGA cause i need some QFG in my system i just can't live without glorahol im a gloraholic.

but I'll let you know when I do.
did you try running it through dosbox? would that even work for kq7?
Actually, it will eventually let you skip over the explosion part, giving you more than enough time to walk to the right place to use it. Just keep trying.Peter Swinkels wrote:Do you mean the game will skip over the firecracker part after several times? That doesn't seem likely. And there is no possible way to get the grave in time, is there?

I am afraid that you are wrong Swift. Valanice blew up about 20 times and the game still wouldn't let me skip. What does the Version file in your KQ7 directory say? My Version file says I have ver. 2.00b. Also after how many times is supposed to let you skip?
BTW: I am running KQ7 under Windows 98. I tried dosbox on a Pentium II with Windows 2000.
I tried dosbox (not on KQ7) but it didn't even seem to be able to work properly with simple DOS programs. Perhaps I downloaded a beta version or it might be my processor. I could give it a try.did you try running it through dosbox? would that even work for kq7?
