Some music I recorded

#1 Post by Blackthorne519 » Tue Sep 14, 2004 3:49 pm

I was searching around my house and I found a CD of some songs I recorded with a buddy of mine, about five years ago. It's funny to listen to now.

Anyway, I burned a tune to .mp3 and I put it on the web, so if you want to hear it, it's right Here - It's a song called Devotion.

I played all the instruments on the track, except drums, which was a first for me. It was fun. I sing the first verse and chorus vocals, and my buddy sings the second verse.

It's fun to hear this stuff in retrospect!

First off...let me know when you release your first album...because I'll be the first person to buy it!!! This is better than anything playing on my radio at the moment. Fantastic stuff, Blackthorne! Fantastic doesn't even seem to cut it for me...this is brilliant work. Your instrumentals are out of this world and the vocals compliment each other beautifully! :)

Wow your friend looks like he's done quite a lot of music!!

An album called Here Comes The Pain

and one called

Far From Home

He must be well famous round your area!

Wow you can even buy the album that song is from! http://www.geocities.com/r_lauback/catalogue.html but the link is dead!

Yeah, Ronnie Dark ( http://www.ronniedark.com ) recorded the song for me and played the drums. He's been a friend of mine since childhood, and we've played a lot of music together.

I wish Ron were famous, because he deserves it, he's really talented. I uploaded an MP3 of one of his songs to my server. This is a tune called Spaces. It's off of his album, Nothing Lasts - which I did the cover art for. Ron works pretty hard around the area, but where we live isn't always conducive to music!

As for the other friend who sings on the song, he's a college buddy of mine who doesn't really play music anymore. It's kind of a shame.

Rose, thanks for the compliments! That's really nice.

well I'm heavy into the extreme metal stuff at the moment, though I dabble in Johnny Cash, Dax Riggs, Don McLean, Jim Croce, stuff like that too.

just complimenting you, because usually I hate stuff on first listen. but I likes this a whole lot. ;)

makes my stuff sound like-a-da crap! :lol

Jim Croce is just incredible. His playing is NUTS!

Anyway, here are a couple more files. Keep in mind, these were done at the same sessions, but never really completed. The vocals were never fully finished or touched up.....blah blah. This stuff is five years old anyway!

Relivication - another song I wrote

Secret Handshake - AKA Wave Goodbye - this is a song Sean and I wrote. Sean's the other guy who sings.

Again, track lineup

Steve Alexander (Blackthorne) - Lead and Rythm Guitars, Vocals, Keyboards, Bass Guitar
Sean Pratt - Vocals
Ronnie Dark - Drums

Produced by Ronnie Dark and Steve-0

Devotion is really good. It's grown on me heaps and I've even got my girlfriend hooked on it. If possible, can you post the lyrics, BT?

Wow, jeez. That's really cool. Sure. Here are the lyrics.

"Devotion"
Words and Music by Steven Alexander

Stars above a moonlit night,
Take away my fears tonight.
No one says that love is free,
but when you take you give to me.
I dream of someone close I know,
and I watch my sorry grow.
But take away this from my heart,
and you'll watch my sorry start. (yeah)

Strip away my emotions
and take away all my clothes
Seeking deeper devotion
messin' up is all I know...

Take me up and take me down
Well pull me up before I drown
Truth is searching in the canyons of our thoughts
Until you see what love has wrought
Until you see what love has wrought

A whispered hush befalls us now,
and everybody wonders how,
Things around got so messed up
was it just a matter of trust?
Everyone around me says
Take your heart up off the floor,
They don't know that I'm to blame
So I hang my head in shame. (yeah)

Strip away my emotions
and take away all my clothes
Seeking deeper devotion
messin' up is all I know...

Take me up and take me down
Well pull me up before I drown
Truth is searching in the canyons of our thoughts
Until you see what love has wrought
Until you see what love has wrought
Until you see, oh?
Until you see, oh?

Stevo, that is fucking awesome. Not pop! Pop is crap. Pop is really crap. Upload some more. You've got the space, it's not like we have games to upload there or anything. Seriously, you are my new demi-god.

There's a crazy little thing called love. It's an insane problem that makes sane men want to find a chick. If you're a musician, then you write songs about them. Every man needs a guitar and a chick to sing about. That's what makes life worth living.

(Interchange chick with dude in your case Spikster. ;) )

Thanks there - Really don't have too much more on MP3 at the moment, I have some other recordings of another band I was with, but we were kind of hippie, and jam-oriented so most of the songs are instrumental in nature, and pretty taste specific.

I'm working on recording a new album at the moment, so hopefully I can upload stuff from that.

As for love songs, yeah, that song was about this girl I was really close with. We were tight friends, and I fell in love. Though she dated a friend of mine, who I just thought was wrong for her. Why? Because he wasn't ME, DUH!! Anyway, I was just a kid - I was maybe 20 years old - so it's funny to hear a song like "Devotion" now, knowing what it means to me. It's more of a funny snapshot in time for me, but it means different things to other people. As for that girl, she's still with that guy, but she's a school teacher and kind of lame, not the wild, smart, witty and funny girl I knew. She settled on being kind of dowdy and it works for her. As for me, I've got a wonderful girlfriend now who is, well, wild, smart, witty and funny. Huh? Weird. Writing songs about people and emotions happens. Or sometimes you write a song about nothing......

My dear mr Klitos. That's so untrue. There are many men with guitars that don't sing about love. I have a guitar for example. And yes, I play it. Love songs I still hate. I hate hatesongs even more. And most of all, I hate society critical songs.

The difference is hard to tell these days.

Actually, I like some of Shirley Manson's lovesongs. They are always written in such an obsessive manner.

Pop = Boybands, Girlbands, Boybands with a couple of girls in them, Girlbands with a couple of boys who look like girls in them.

Rock = Guitar Driven.
