Mac user - how to exit full-screen mode?

#1 Post by thaumata » Sun Feb 27, 2011 2:46 am

Hi! I'm having such a good time reliving my childhood with the KQ remakes, and have gotten my sister's children (ages 10 -13) to play them, too. The trouble is, we live an ocean apart and use skype to chat, so I really need to run this game in a window. I can't find the option anywhere and all the help topics I've seen about it are windows related. Can anyone tell me how to do it, please? It'll make it so much easier for us to all play together.

Cheers! And thanks for all the hard work. It's lovely!

You can't do it in-game. You have to run the winsetup.exe file, check the "run game in a window" box, and relaunch the game. If you're running on a high resolution you'll have to add a scaler as well (2x, 3x, etc) to make the window large enough to see.

Ok. I'm sorry if I'm being totally newbish here but where would I find winsetup.exe?

I have a mac, and all that was contained in the .dmg file was the readme (which contains these same instructions about the winsetup.exe file), the game manual .pdf and the game itself.

Usually on a mac, when a game does this, you can just command-enter or hit escape or something like that to flip it back to windowed mode, but nothing I've tried seems to work.

Thanks again for any advice.

Sorry, I completely missed the part where you said you were a Mac user. I'm blind. Edit the ACSETUP.CFG file and change the "windowed=0" line to "windowed=1".

Ah ha! No worries. I got it. For anyone else who is looking you have to:

- Right click (command click) the game icon to view the contents
- Choose Root
- Drive C
- Program Files
- AGD Interactive
- King's Quest 1
- in there is the acsetup.cfg file. You need to open it with a text editor to change that line, then save and start the game again.

It took me forever to find it, so I hope that helps.

The only issue now is that it runs in something tiny like 300x240, haha! I don't suppose you know what I can change to blow it up a bit? Here's your options from that file:

[sound]
digiid=-1
midiid=-1
digiwin=1096302880
midiwin=-1
digiindx=0
midiindx=0
digiwinindx=0
midiwinindx=0
[misc]
gamecolordepth=32
defaultres=1
screenres=0
letterbox=0
defaultgfxdriver=DX5
gfxdriver=DX5
windowed=1
refresh=0
gfxfilter=0
titletext=King's Quest I Setup
cachemax=51200
[disabled]
musicvox=1
speechvox=1
16bit=0

Change:

gfxfilter=0

to:

gfxfilter=StdScale2

That should do the trick. ;)
