I have Windows XP Home edition . . . will your remakes of KQ1 and KQ2 run on this? Or does AGS run in DOS? I can successfully play KQ1SCI, KQ3, and KQ4 in the DOS Command Prompt with my XP computer.

What about the sound and video requirements? For some reason, I can only get my old DOS games to work on the Internal PC Speaker setting, my computer apparently cannot emulate a SoundBlaster, or anything else, successfully. This makes some games downright unplayable, and some I can play with limited or no sound.

As to video, my computer cannot be set (in windows) to 640x480 or 256 colors. It is a laptop, and the only settings are 800x600 or 1024x768; 16-bit or 32-bit color. Again, this causes problems on some of my old games.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that your games will run on my computer anyway?

Our games SHOULD work well on XP. KQ1VGA was runnable on XP, seeing that AGS can compile a project into a Windows-version.

AGS Windows compiles will work fine on any Windows O/S. DOS compiles however will not work on XP or Windows 2000 unless you're very lucky. I assume Tierra do Windows compiles though, since nobody does DOS compiles using WinAGS anymore...
My homepage | My message board | The British AGS Gamers Society
"However, trying too much won't get you closer to being quoted" - P3ss1
"I'm like in-fucking-vincible" - EvenWolf

King's Quest 1 VGA is a direct remake of the original word for word, situation for situation, character for character. The main differences being the point and click (icon-based)interface, upgraded backgrounds animations and music... plus the addition of an optional speech pack.

King's Quest 2 VGA is the same basic storyline as the original AGI game but has more new places to go, characters to meet and quests to solve throughout the game - in addition to the places that you could visit in the AGI game. Over half of KQ2VGA is completely original. There's about 1,600 lines of character dialog in KQ2VGA, and it will come with an optional (but HIGHLY recommended) digital music pack.

The only person who can do that is Chris Jones, the creator of the AGS utility and engine. We're just users of his creations.

Basicly, it should run in XP. Just try using those handy dandy compatibiltie features. I played Freddy Pharkus but had no sound. But this was at my aunt and uncle's and may not have set it up right.

And linux, you can play older sierra games with a little program. Whether or not it works with AGS games i dont know. But Al Lowe has it on his site.
www.allowe.com/troubleshooting.htm

hope this helps!

There's a big difference between AGS and AGI/SCI. AGI/SCI games were never meant to run under Windows (not including some of the SCI VGA games, as they were also playable on Windows). Al is talking about AGI and SCI interpreters for Linux. AGS is, as already mentioned, completely different, and has no relation whatsoever with AGI/SCI, except that the games for these things are usually adventure games
Pidgeot
-----
Every error you find is the last one.
