There is someone of telling if she's there or not... I think it has something to do with tasting her house. If you try it, and she's home, you can hear her. If you can't hear her, she's not home... <p></p><i></i>

It's not a set number of times, but rather it's random. Walk up to the house and knock on the door. If it mentions someone is home, leave the screen and return. Knock on the door again. Repeat until it mentions that there is no answer when you knock, indicating the witch isn't home and it's safe to go inside.<br><br>~Wolfgang <p></p><i></i>
