Violent vs. Passive Solutions

#1 Post by greengardens47 » Sun Sep 19, 2004 4:19 pm

I just finished the game and missed some points. I chose the passive solutions to retrieving the treasures. Would I have gotten more points by being aggressive?

Nope, the peaceful solutions are the optimal ones.

Choices

#6 Post by greengardens47 » Mon Sep 20, 2004 6:15 pm

I have found 2 choices for retrieving all 3 treasures.
1. Mirror -- kill the dragon, go back through the well, or, throw the water and go back through the cave. (if you don't cut down bucket).
2. Shield -- play the fiddle and make guards dance or they will dissappear due to four leaf clover. King does not leave scepter w/latter.
3. Chest - kill the giant and get chest, or become invisible and he goes to sleep. Come up vine, (if you solved gnome's riddle) or go through cave if you have key.

Can't figure out where I am missing the other 11 points.
If you bribe Troll, goat is useless. Can't kill Ogre. What is best use for FGM spell?

The FGM spell can protect you from the random enemies, witch, giant and dragon. It allows you to get the mirror without the dagger. It also allows you to get the items from the witch house without her bothering you.

Further things that increase your score:
Get the beans from the gnome and climb the beanstalk
Push the witch into the cauldron
Bribe the rat with cheese instead of treasure
Get the note, slingshot, clover, pebbles and ring even though you don't need them
Get all minor treasures (pouch with diamonds, gold walnut, egg, sceptre)
Ah, I am sorry, but spell dissappears when you enter witches cottage and you get zapped.

I believe there is a set duration for the spell. If you're fast enough, you should be able to get past the witch with the protection on.

Here's what's got me confused actually. You can stab the goat in the back for no reason, (which shocked the heck out of me, cause I didn't think you could do that, and even I felt bad about it.) but to the Giant that wanted to bust your chops gets away with a nap. If anyone needed a sharp poke, it would be the giant. At least the dragon would let you know that if you came closer, you'd be fried.
