Last Friday Deb and I went to see Fun with Dick and Jane (2005), it was your typical hilarious Jim Carrey adventure.

Jim Carrey is so funny so I was a tiny bit dissapointed that the film didnt break the mold of his previous work, but nevertheless it was very entertaining.

My favorite part of the film which is also shown in the trailer in when Dick and Jane rob a Starbucks:

Dick: (To counter attendant) Are these non-fat muffins?

(Silence)

Dick: ARE THESE NON-FAT MUFFINS!?

Attendant: Uhh Yea.

Dick: (To Jane) Ooh! Honey you wanna get some o' those!

Classic!!

Fun with Dick and Jane - 8/10

This past Friday (last night) Deb and I went to see the infamous Brokeback Mountain (2005) starring Heath Ledger (A Knights Tale, Brothers Grimm, Cassanova) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Day After Tomorrow, Jarhead) which I thought was utterly BRILLIANT!!! The story is just about 2 people's love for each other which they have to keep hidden from society and their families especially since they are both men.

This film really must be seen, Ang Lee has done a superb job directing this and both actors doing an astounding job!! The film is a little slow at times but I was never bored during the 2 hours + film time (134 min).

Although Deb was getting restless towards the end of the film and ultimately felt it was quite boring. For me personally, the best film of 2006 so far and if not for Narnia most likely the best film of 2005.

Once you've finished watching its brilliance makes yoiu feel the need to just watch it again!

Brokeback Mountain (2005) 10/10!

You guys seen anything lately?

Last film I saw was Devil's Rejects (2005). It's such an awesome time but too ahead of it's time. It's very 70's which I loved about this film since generally 70's in one of my favourite decade of films.

Very brutal and horrific and not the film you take your mother to see yet you can take your friend who is a girl (but keep going and she'll be a girlfriend) sort of thing. But yeah, it's pretty underrated and as I said if's too far ahead of it's time, meaning if it was released in the 70 then I'd guarantee it'll be rubbing shoulders with films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Shining and the Exorcist.

Other films I saw, Jarhead (2005), which was absolutely brilliant and King Kong (2005) which I thought was amazing, however my lack of time to go proceeded me in watching a dirty pirate version so it was kinda ruined for me but at least it was good enough for me to like it in that kinda quality. Now when I watch it on official DVD on a 42" Plasma (hopefully it'll be released for HD standards and I'll have myself a HD DVD) and the quality shall blow me away.

You'll love my films though when I'm a famous movie director.

I saw Brokeback Mountain (2005) with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal on a movie festival. This movie disappointed me, cause it contains soooo many gay movie clichés, but I guess it's allright since this one is the first movie to hit such a gigantic audience. Oh well. Don't cry when the credits start rolling, I certainly didn't. I noticed the word "versatile" on one of the machines. Hm. Starts me thinking.

Is it a HD plasma you have? is it yours or your parents? You must have a big room if its yours  :D  Me and Chris are looking into buying one for our house in March, waiting for a good one, would you recommend them? Or do you think its not that much different from a normal plasma? I couldn't notice the difference in the shop.

BTW you'll need a HD DVD player or Blue-Ray player aswell to play them I was looking into it because we need to get one.

Hell yeah I'd recommend them! You seen the quality of them? I work at Curry's and hang around the HD TV's alot because of the beauty that comes out of the TV. I think what you should do is walk into your nearest Curry's store and hopefully they'll have one on display which shows the quality and then they'll have the normal Plasma TV's and you'll see so much difference.

Yeah I know you need a HD DVD Player, If you do intend to get a HD TV, get Sky HD which comes out next month or upgrade if you're already with Sky. But I wouldn't go into it yet as they are very expensive at the moment, but if you're willing to get one, go for a LG brand TV. They're probably the most reliable out of all brands. And come down to the Curry's in my store and I'll give you a discount. :p

I saw Walk the Line (2005) yesterday ... just ... wow.  Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were absolutely amazing.  I was glad I actually had a bit of a walk to get home afterwards, because I was left with a lot to think about.

But Shaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-you know what? Uh-huh!

WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (2006)

A DUH!!!!

Of course I went to see this, and of course while thought it was cool you guys would beg to differ. There had been a lot of bad reviews about this movie but  I happen to think it was cool, especially since not many people die in the movie.  :)

I watched the movie do to the fact I became interested about the urban legend of a young babysitter alone in a house with the children upstairs under her care, but she recieves many obscene phone calls from a man who asks her the same thing most of the time he calls her, "Have You Checked the Children?". She calls the police, they say that the next time he calls she should keep him on the line for at least 60 minutes in order for them to trace where the call his coming from.

She agrees to it and a couple minutes the phone rings and she answers. All she hears is heavy breathing on the other end of the phone. She finds it gross but manages to keep the man on the phone for 60 seconds, while she does so she asks "What do you want?" and he finally stops the heavy breathing and says "Your blood, all over ME!"....EW! Scared she hangs up the phone but had managed to keep the man on the line for at least 60 seconds. Seconds later the Operator calls the babysitter and says to her, and you all guessed it...

"THE CALLS ARE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE!!! GET OUT OF THERE NOW!!!"

So scary...really it is!!! So there many different versions of the ending of the story, but for the movie I was just soooooo happy about who lived.
THE CHILDREN LIVED! YAY!! Along with the babysitter of course! :)
Over all I give this movie a 8/10. I say good work!!! Although it's mildly a horror it makes a great Psychological Thriller! I totally recommend it if you want to see something scary!  :D

Deb and I went to see Final Destination 3 (2006) yesterday. We loved the first 2 and this one didnt dissapoint. It didnt have known name actors in it like the other two but that was fine and the actors were really good.

Very gruesome like the other two and it also drew from the prequels as part of the story which was nice.

Bit of a cliffhanger ending so FD4 looks a cert, good film if you like the series.

7/10

Remakes again

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, When a Stranger Calls, and now The Hills Have Eyes...it would seem the horror genre has fallen into remake-itis just like so many others.  Has Hollywood completely lost all capacity for originality?

And yes, that was a rhetorical question. :p

Just watched a DVD I bought a few months ago which was recommended by a friend... and I have to say it was an AMAZING film!!

Not too good in the story area, but thats not too be expected in this genre, everything else about the film was just brilliance!

I am of course referring to Ong-Bak (2003).

10/10

EDIT: Took the time to "IMDB" most of the films in this thread so that you can click on the film and read about it/find out more etc so I've edited a few people's post to add in links. I havnt changed any text just put a link behind the text. If anyone objects (hey its your post) then just change it back and let me know (PM) otherwise it would be great if people could IMDB films they are talking about here (if they want to) just to make it easier for people to have a look and see what film each other likes.  ;)

there is a scene in that film which is 1 long shot (by all appearances unless they used a quick morph somewhere to cover up a mistake) that shot is awsome

I just watched "November" with Courtney Cox. I really liked this movie. It's another your-own-theory-driven movie, despite of what summaries may tell you. There've been so many movies playing with time, death and memory like Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Butterfly effect....but this was a great addition to that category. I recommend it, and the DVD is very very cheap.

How would you say it compared to the other films you mentioned? I adored Donnie Darko. Infact I'm in a play right now that although is only 40 some pages is based heavily on Donnie Darko in the social sense. Since it's a short production and it's merely based off it the enitre theme of playing with time is gone but it is the same in the aspect of main plot and even features the same soundtrack. Back to what I was trying to get at at first though, How does November compare to Donnie Darko, The Butterfly Effect and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? I listed them in my order of preference and I'm a big fan of this category. How would your list look with November included?

Good question, but I can't say to much without spoiling the plot. I tell you what i think of them concerning the vagueness, or how much there's left for interpretation. It's not really a genre I think, but I certainly categorise it  as such. I don't know if others do. Also note that three of these movies are from 2004, they do not really influence each other, it looks somewhat coincidental.

*SPOILERS*

The Butterfly Effect / The Butterfly Effect (Director's Cut): 2004
This is pretty chronological, if you get what I mean. It's pretty obvious what's happening in this movie. The most interesting thing about this movie is that the director's cut has a RADICAL different and more tragic ending than the original. Makes it less clear cut, I guess. You can form your own theories about time travel and changing time actually works.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: 2004
It's less obvious than in Butterfly, because of flashbacks and dozens of symbolisms that cut right through the movie. Although it's less obvious what exactly is happening here, it's more clear what the movie points to than Butterfly.

Donnie Darko (Director's Cut): 2001
Here the story as such is more clear cut than in Sunshine and Butterfly, but  the point of the movie is very much more open to interpretation. Thinking about the achronysm, alternate timelines and who dies and who lives will  make your head spin.

November: 2004
This story starts out as clear cut chronological, but very soon you'll see that things are wrong, and that you're constantly being fooled in believing different things. First you think that it's a common killer-stalker movie, then you will think it's a trauma-flashback movie and eventually you will see that all that makes no sense (don't wanna spoil the main point), and that there is no actual chronology. What exactly happened is almost completely open to free interpretation, just like Donnie, but it's more of an memory reconstruction story just like Sunshine.

Have just watched V for Vendetta. I ....

loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, nearly every sentence spoken there, nearly every shot taken (camera shot, mind you) - it's brilliant. Go and see it now, if you haven't already!

That movie truly is incredible. Some of the Natalie Portman scene's needed to be shorter though.

Yeah, V for Vendetta was quite okay. Weird marketing and trailers for this movie though, made me....not wanna see it. But since I have unlimited access to theatres and had already seen every other movie...I'm glad I did though.
